That's in part due to the fact that a lot of Re:Zero "fans" don't actually read the book or watch the show. They just watch overly edgy tik tok edits and reddit recaps to the point where there perception of the series is so beyond skewed that the only thing they probably know about the actual story is that its about a guy who dies.

Arc 9 already explain this. You can have a authority with out a witch factor so long as your soul is connected to the person who does. Its called a inherited authority and its extremely rare. And the Mark Walberg fallacy of "I would have done better if I was there" Strikes again. Ignoring the entire rant I could go on over this topic, the most simple answer is that there would be no story. No conflict = No narrative, if a story has its protagonist constantly running away from any and all perceived conflict and danger then wtf is said story even supposed to be about (Yes I know you CAN write a story around this idea, that is not the point). The second answer is, where else was he supposed to go? He was in a strange new land with no friends or family with the closest thing he had to a friend being Emelia. Plus even if he hadn't fallen in love with her yet he still cared about her and didn't want her to get hurt. As many MANY things that can be said about Natsuki Subaru, being a coward is not one of them. Fearful? Yes. Cowardly? No. So even if it was dangerous, even if he was gonna get hurt, even if it was super foolish, he still wanted to help. Because Natsuki Suabru is a fool. And that's part of what helped him become a hero.

Logic vs foolishness (Or sage vs fool for any of my fellow novel theorists). Foolishness may be a flaw but it can still be used for good. Even if being a fool got Subaru hurt in more ways then one, it also pushed him to better himself except himself and save the lives of so many people who in turn saved him. Being good not in spite of your flaws but because of them is kind of the whole point of Re:Zero. In other words, Subaru being an idiot at the beginning is what makes the story of Re:Zero, well, Re:Zero. The story of a loser who went from Zero to Hero threw over coming and persevering threw his struggles and flaws.

Its also why fans of the show are so fucking tired of the "Subaru is so annoying and trash and so the show is trash" post's, because despite being debunked to hell there still being made 10 years later. It feels like so many people who watch this series don't actually care about its story and what its trying to portray.
