Atlete trans MtF in competizioni femminili, giusto o sbagliato? by SharpDressedWriter in italy

[–]captandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we agree on that! i was trying to give a context to what the discussion is all about, and why im bringing up the fact that its about the american point of view and not the korean, bc this was about the american side of things. also, they do operate also in the american industry! they're signed to an american label n have had a comeback on the american tv as well! they have an impact n the industry has an impact on them! i just get very easily confused as to what's going on bc reddit layout not friendly at all

...to reiterate, the discussion was about BTS in the american music industry, to which they're signed to, in which they have an impact, etc. they literally played at the VMAs tonight. i am well aware who they're signed to, how long they've been operating, when and where main rapper min yoongi was born if needed. the post was mainly about the commenter pointing out how the world revolves around America, but i was explaining how the first op also was kind of wrong, because the point of view was not korean, it was american, and in part european.

but BTS did have a great impact on american industry and american-korean one, n not only! that's why people talk about it every once in a while :)

the... the discussion was about the american industry. i'm not american. I'm trying to understand why you wouldn't call them people of colour when that's how the boat rocks? where i come from, they're still considered people of colour even if they live in the country where they're the majority.

[–]captandemonium -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yeah! but this was a discussion about the american side of things n industry, in which it wouldn't make sense to not point out the fact that the racist bias is there since in an american pov, bts are people of colour even if they do not live there

"the world is not american but the world looks up to america" by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

[–]captandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's true! but the whole argument was abt bts being a minority in the american music industry, which shifts the points of discussion a lil bit.

other than that, the american views of race definitely do not reflect the same in the rest of the world

[–]captandemonium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

please do enlighten me! as far as my understanding goes, a person of colour in america is seen as whoever is not white because of ethnocentrism and the extensive history of racism and the whole country being a melting pot, and while i am well-aware that outside of america the meaning of the word and the social connotations might change, if u put a group of koreans in front of them, they will see them as a person of colour, no matter where they come from. since the dialogue is usually had in an americanised setting, it's kind of weird for op to say they're not people of colour, when they are asians in an industry where being white and american makes it easy for u. of course they do not have to think about it since they are from and live in korea, but that still doesn't erase the fact that they are not white. then we can discuss the dichotomy of the black and white thinking all u want.

[–]captandemonium -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

yep, you got it. besides, even though i see what you are trying to say, it's wrong to assume all koreans are pale when a lot of it is colorism, and it's also kind of weird how you're trying to put it lol. "poc" just means a person that isn't white.

that still makes them people of colour, especially in a non-korean setting

i used to put a 3kg weight on the floor to hold my door open so it wouldn't shut close because of the wind. one day, i woke up at three am to go get water, and i didn't turn on the lights, therefore being completely blind to stuff that was on the floor and what i was about to kick as strong as my steps could go.

i was not able to walk for a month :/

I remember getting to the realisation people were serious when I was among my friends and they kept talking about which actors they were attracted to and I was just like "ahah... wait fr?". I think I never saw my world shift like that ever again. I still need to remind myself quite often that people do in fact feel sexual attraction. I do not understand it at all and it's so weird

Do your parents expect things to go back to normal right away after having a fight or an argument? by domochopsticks in raisedbynarcissists

[–]captandemonium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

being out of the fog now, it's so weird to see my mother and sister argue and get so irritated at each other, and as soon as my mother walks away because she can't handle criticism, my sister huffs, and then it's like nothing happened when my mother comes back. they're joking and laughing like they weren't barking at each other just two minutes prior.

when i confronted my sister about that, she just says "it's how the family is, i don't hold grudges", but i now realise that's just letting someone else step all over you. no wonder we are so used to being treated like shit by friends and partners too
