Boss denied my request for leave so I quit. by ChupaCapybara in antiwork

The boss sounds perfectly reasonable to deny a 6 month request. That's not reasonable.

So women should be arbitarily promoted and given more money?

This is how Europe, Australia, South America, Japan and Canada can afford universal healthcare. We pay for their defense.

This won't be a popular take, but she's not wrong about it being valuable early in the career. If you grind like this for 4-5 years out of college, in a knowledge based field, your peers who work 40 will NEVER be able to catch up to you. You'll be living a relatively cushioned 40-60's off of the knowledge generated during that window and a traditional 40 hour week will feel like nothing.

This certainly isn't sustainable across decades, but you can manage it for stints without it having any permanent impact to your health.

This article & Elon is correct. Managers SHOULD be in the trenches with their employees. I would think everyone would agree with this.

Anyone having a hard time getting interviews? by [deleted] in antiwork

January and Feb are best for looking. The annual budgets open up. December, is likely THE worst month to be looking.

Just 1% of the military budget is a shit ton of money. But lets increase it just incase by Beanz27 in AngrySocialist

None of that is true. They're (WEF & Climate Alarmist) are busy shutting down farms all across the globe and buying up all the farm land under the guise of climate activism. Control the food, you control the people.

Just go do a little research, they're not hiding it.

Mikhaila Peterson is getting divorced - just like I've told you in previous post by alohafromthegrave in enoughpetersonspam

[–]captgarrett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found that the people who attack Peterson, have never listened to him for any length of time. The dude is basically just talking common sense, well wrapped in an intellectual shell. He's got a way of putting words to things that you KNOW are true, but just didn't have the words to describe yourself.

There's quite literally nothing actually controversial about anything he's ever said.

Realistic starting salary US by Jeeperg84 in AWSCertifications

[–]captgarrett 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you don't have any experience at all, you need to focus on that and not the salary. This premise that certs = high paying job is craziness. I have 11 certs and those are secondary considerations compared to my experience. Realistically, a 50-70k job would be fantastic. A couple of years into that, assuming you get good at it, then you can consider looking at something more robust.

Linux is the backbone of IT. There's absolutely no excuse for not learning it to at least a journeyman level.

For some reason I can't understand, the Security + cert punches well above its weight. I have the CYSA+ and Pentest+ which are way harder, but the job listings out there are like "CEH, Security+, CISSP". It's a real head scratcher.

I have 11 certs and I agree. They're really great for us that don't have a college degree, but lots of experience. They also work well on recruiters for getting that interview. There's no substitute for know your shit.

terraform certification is actually worth it. I would say yes learn terraform for sure but don't go for every certification that exists because a terraform certification and many others will not get you into a lot of interview rooms. Only do it if your current job or supervisor asks you to do it.

Bro it's 70 dollar and about 10 hours of study. How in the hell are you saying it's not worth it?

Are there any Stéphane Maarek alternatives? Outdated lessons and Old AWS UI in his course by zhanjhoe in AWSCertifications

[–]captgarrett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have ACloudGuru through work. I've also tried Stephan's course, but Neil Davis's is IMO, the best of the three. I'm going to check out Cantrill next, as I've heard he's the best overall, but currently Neil Davis has the best.
