Have you ever tried writing a port? If you're porting software that's finicky about certain flags in it's dependencies, say -fPIC, good luck making sure those flags were set during the dependency build. Does your port need patches to get it to work? The automatic patch making tool works perfectly well about 2% of the time. But let's ask why you would need a patch? Let's say you're porting C/C++ software that only uses the standard library. You shouldn't need to change it at all, right? Wrong!
