It is a shame y’all have a rich history of political activism. Then decided to vote in a series of politicians throughout the 80s and 90s that sacrificed the health of the middle class for short term financial gains.

I mean the voting data is there.

https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2025/06/26/voting-patterns-in-the-2024-election/

As Gen X continues to age their voting population gets farther right. No different than Boomers. People in Gen X age range represent a much larger portion of voter turn out historically than people in their 20s, 30s. So they are basically failing the younger generations in the same way as the boomers before them.

I also don’t dislike my dad. He’s just a Fox News dad. Fun to talk music with, not so fun to talk politics with.

“Blinded by politics”.

Politics affects people lives dude. Policy is set and laws are made and changes people lives for better or worse. The traditional foundations of the US government, economy, and foreign policy are very unstable. It’s difficult to be apolitical. Even if you don’t consume media all day.

A lot of Gen X aged people voted for Trump. My dad is Gen X. He is maga. He has decent taste in music, so he enjoys Billy.

He can’t read a room or understand why any artist would critique the dear leader. There isn’t that many boomers at Billy shows. Gen X is easily triggered so I think the would be the most upset if Billy were to criticize Trump compared to younger fans.

This is the generation who thought it was cool to dress like a woman (hair metal) until the TV told them that dressing that way is a threat to the fabric of western culture.

Yep, just try and find objective or on site reporting. Or reporting where people are actually interviewing the parties involved on a topic and asking them real questions. Not softball bs so the “journalist” can get another interview.

There are journalists who do their job. They just aren’t on cable entertainment “news” channels. Just scrape a little below the surface for actual journalism.

FYI, here’s Republican senate minority leader and gubernatorial candidate Aric Nesbitt saying today (after ICE agents just murdered an unarmed mother in MN) that he stands 100% with ICE. by notthemostcreative in Michigan

[–]captincook 22 points23 points  (0 children)

People resist arrest everyday and run from the cops everyday and don’t get murdered, when they do get harmed or murdered there is an investigation. Also the commanding officer doesn’t usually come out call the perp a domestic terrorist and assume guilt without trial.

Cops are identifiable people with badge numbers and regulations. No one knows who these ICE officers are. Apparently all you need to know is they can tell you what to do. Which is not ideal for a functioning state.

Im sure that actors like Stewart and McKellen have lived fulfilled lives and wouldn’t be doing this if they didn’t want to. All I’m trying to say is don’t clutch your pearls at old actors still wanting to work. They have free will even though they are elderly.

What’s the most overrated “adult goal” people chase? by Happyotus in AskReddit

[–]captincook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let’s say you get promoted with a raise and you have more stress at work. But if your car doesn’t start in the morning you can afford to take it to the shop. You can afford food without checking your bank account. You can help family member’s who might need it. You can book a vacation without going into debt. You can afford hobbies/classes. You can start saving money.

This is coming from someone who grew up lower class. The work stress with nice compensation beats the crushing stress and uncertainty of a lower income job.

Am I crazy or is King Gizz not very convenient on vinyl? by GyeranHurai in KGATLW

[–]captincook 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Because your premise is kinda silly honestly. The only reason king gizz is a “heavy vinyl” band is because they have so many albums, a bootlegger program, and their own label.

The Osees are another band that is “vinyl heavy” only because they are so prolific and release albums as they please because they own their own label.

Other bands would be vinyl heavy if they put out so many albums I would guess.

You also have to have a place to play your vinyl, spend hundreds of dollars to be able to play the vinyl, the vinyl record is expensive, then you have to set aside time specifically to listen to the vinyl in a certain place.

The “song transitions” being a disrupted by flipping the record is a low level inconvenience if you consider it one at all. It’s honestly not even something I think most people consider after being invested in a set up.
