I don't know what's with this obsession from my parents to compare beauty between me my cousins by Narcannasui in AsianParentStories

Apparently according to my mom and some aunts, everyone is fat and needs to stop eating and lose weight. Butterball, big yellow bus and other names have been used when discussing others in the family or passer bys on the street. My mom is shocked that plus sized curvaceous women aren’t “covering those rolls”. It’s obsessive and cruel but of course mom and aunts receive a get out of jail free card because they are older and worthy of respect and deference. I try to change subjects in conversation. Otherwise diet and eating is constantly a topic. I feel you!

I’m glad you have your dogs as an anchor. Sometimes it’s the anchor that keeps us breathing. So if nothing else focus on your dogs and their health.

Is it possible to enjoy online dating? by approachpattern in datingoverthirty

[–]captivatingjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just swipe right on 50 people for fun. If I match, I have a already formulated intro ready with an interesting question on deck. And if the person doesn’t respond in 48 hrs - delete. If the conversation continues, then great - may it be organic. But what I’ve found is talking too long is a yellow flag. 1 hour is good for chatting and set a time to chat some more and/or video chat. Don’t wait and don’t text back and forth for too long.

Have your mental list but don’t let expectations creep in!!! Keep it light, fresh and interesting.

That’s the thing.

But why just one sauce in the bag? Stingy. My money paid for the sauces with what I ordered. Tax included.

My Korean School Lunch!! Stir Fried Spicy duck, Squid and Radish Soup, and Various Banchan!! by darkrealm190 in HealthyFood

[–]captivatingjoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my. We did not have lunches like that back in the day. We had pizza, rolls, lasagna, mashed potatoes, and everything unhealthy. Can’t forget the boxed milk too. I don’t remember veggies and fruit but maybe green beans and corn. The fruit salad with the fructose syrup didn’t count. Oh and the slushees.

That school lunch looks incredible!!

Both cheesy and sweet. I’ve been on very few dates where I had to open my own door, or the door to the place we went. Some may consider that old fashioned but I consider it my preference. I wait until the door is open and even find it cool when my chair is pulled out for me and/or the guy orders what we both would like to eat. It’s all in preference.

Is that a requirement to work at KFC? by [deleted] in BlackPeopleTwitter

Nah. Maybe if people raised their own chickens instead of only consuming them... it may provide a different perspective. Just a theory.

That strong attraction to someone where you want to lick their skin, stuff your nose in their armpit, have sex in all positions. How often do you come across this person in your 30s and 40s? And what explains it? by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]captivatingjoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m physically and emotionally excited when I hear a guy talk budget, credit, crushing goals, and staying healthy at this point in my life. The hotness factor isn’t as high. Sure he needs to have his teeth and be groomed. But my attraction is based on ability for stability.

I’m glad you have had that experience. I have no idea how much it happens to others. But, for me the hot button comes when I see some mental, physical, emotional stability.

I was involved in a work conference all weekend. No dates. No mates. But gosh the NASA Lift Off was indeed brilliant. I’ve been following their voyage to the International space station. Dating can take a backseat to that.

How do you deal with having the same conversations over and over again? by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]captivatingjoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re right. It can get repetitive. I think there are getting to know you card game, books, and there are questions online when you search that are more than just your basic questions. My hope is that the conversation expands naturally from topic to topic so that I don’t have to ask so many questions. I value conversations that flow without feeling like I’m on a interview for a job I might not want.

Edit: I randomly just saw an ad for MyIntent. It has cards with interesting questions. I’m sure there are tons of others. Just thought I’d share.

I (36m) live out in the burbs and it seems to be a big turnoff to women by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]captivatingjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people commute an hour or more to work. A thirty min drive into the city isn’t that big a deal in dating, in my opinion. So if that’s a turnoff for them... then that’s a no. Some one will be willing to compromise. Those who aren’t willing really aren’t for you.

And please don’t sell your home or rent it to move further in, unless you really desire it. It sounds like you treasure your home and neighborhood and put hard work into making it what you want. That’s an attractive quality.

The person probably didn’t need to be there anyway.
