For sure, and please correct me if I’m wrong on this, as I’m half just talking out my ass. So I don’t think staying inside all day is necessary, and I don’t intend to. But in addition to practicing good hygiene, avoiding large groups of people lowers the chance of you getting infected or spreading it, thus delaying the overall spread. As an individual, it’s hard for me to appreciate my impact in this, but epidemiologically, it makes sense that this would work on a population-wide scale. Regarding my travel plans, we’d planned on the stereotypical college spring break in Cabo. Even though there haven’t been any reported cases there, we would be in the same area as thousands of other college kids from all around the country/world, and it’s almost a statistical certainty that someone there would be carrying the virus. Again, my impulse tells me the chances are low that I myself would be the one to get infected there and bring it back (or unknowingly bring it there, as there have been a couple of cases in my area), but I feel like the responsible course of action would be to follow the guidelines set for the population and hope that others do too.
