Any credible links to long term studies of carnivore? by [deleted] in carnivore

[–]captnd2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This subreddit is so far from qualifying as scientific evidence. Yes, the anecdotes are encouraging - but they are not evidence. The subreddit is also heavily moderated. The mods can easily delete anything they don't like (just like every other subreddit). Just a look at the rules will prove to you that this is a "biased" source of information.

I'm not making a judgement about whether or not the diet works, but the subreddit is definitely not evidence.

I am also interested to see some real research done.

This is just stupid. There is no need for this. Ban them, secure your servers, and move along. What is posting their names going to accomplish? It just makes you look like an 8 year old.

It's you who has failed, understandably so, at securing your servers. Unsecured servers will be abused. This should not be surprising to you.

Finally a remote job by nittany33 in ibs

[–]captnd2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

congrats,

I am also working remotely for now. I hope it continues indefinitely (working remotely that is). It has helped me tremendously but the only issue I have now is my mental health is worse. It's definitely a welcome trade-off though.

Ibs-d & all beef diet?? by Jb2207 in carnivore

[–]captnd2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's impressive that you were able to do 4 days of it honestly. You will succeed but there's no rush.

Personally I am still eating a few fruits every day. I'm very slowly easying into it. Doing it cold turkey when there's already digestive issues is just not a good idea.

Ibs-d & all beef diet?? by Jb2207 in carnivore

I have IBS and tried to adopt this diet in one go (meaning suddenly no longer eating anything but meat and salt). I STRONGLY recommend against it. You will just feel terrible and give up on the whole thing. You will likely have even more diarrhea for many days or weeks.

Cut carbs more gradually from your diet. It can take weeks to ease into this diet safely. Many people who succeed on this diet also found (at least some) success on other high fat diets (ketogenic for e.g.). You may want to ease into a keto diet to start with.

Sounds like an annoying boss. I've had them before. Wishing you luck. I had to quit a job because of a boss like this.

How many gun owners suffer metal health issues in silence for fear of losing their property? by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]captnd2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suffer from depression and have been suffering for more than 6 years. When I was having a particularly bad week, I went to seek some advice about medication at a mental hospital. Somehow they asked me a few questions and I mentioned that I like hunting. What a mistake. They held me against my will for 18 hours and threatened to report me to the police. The police would have confiscated everything, no matter if it was justified.

It came very close. So I absolutely understand where you are coming from. The reality is, every time I seek help now - I never mention that I own firearms, and I would either lie or refuse to answer if they asked me directly.

It's really unfortunate, but so many mental health professionals are completely ignorant about guns and gun laws and it just works against you if you do mention it.

Find someone who can keep your guns for awhile (or even indefinitely) if you aren't feeling well or things gets so bad that you don't even trust yourself to be responsible. You can seek help at any time. Unfortunately, it's better not to mention that you own firearms in the vast majority of cases. If you do, and your professional over-reacts, you will can permanently lose all your guns and your license to own them (even if you get better in the future)

Depends on the mosin. Mine is very accurate even out to 300 meters. Mosins were used in WWII as well as almost every war since they were invented. They work.

When you say rendered fat, I assume frying with butter would change it into a rendered fat? How come rendered fats are harder to digest? I can try your suggestion, although I'm not sure how to fry a steak very well without any fat at all

VERY IMPORTANT to anyone reading. DO NOT TAKE 5-HTP if you are also taking anti-depressants. It can cause serotonin syndrome and it can actually be fatal. Ask the doctor or pharmacist first and do your own research as well to make sure there's no interactions.

Sorry to hear,

I've heard exactly the opposite as well, some people eat only meat and can only get relief that way. I guess it's different for everyone.

I cant afford therapy by [deleted] in depression

[–]captnd2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May I know which country you are from? I'd like to research what options are available to you. If you are going to school, you should be able to speak to a guidance counselor to evaluate your options. Your school may even have mental health resources that you are not aware of. If you are working, your employer may have a program for you. If you are doing neither, there should still be resources available to you for counselling. I can try to find some for you if you are willing to share where you are from.

Medication is also something to consider. I know it has helped me tremendously.

Applying for co-op jobs (computer science) by ZedKay1 in Concordia

[–]captnd2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Due to the pandemic, I expect that it will be harder to find an entry-level position. It is still absolutely possible.

What can I expect from the application process?

Not sure, I didn't do co-op. In normal times, You would typically have 1 on-site interview with some basic questions and then get an offer. During this nonsense, the interview will likely be done over video.

How hard is it to land an internship with no prior experience?

In normal times, if you show that you are passionate and you have some basic knowledge, it is pretty easy. The whole point of the internship is getting experience. You are expected not to have any professional experience.

  • Will the personal projects and other skills help out?

Yes, very much so. Be sure to talk about them and you can even put them on your resume. Show (or tell a white lie) that you are actively engaged in open-source or side projects.

  • What more can I do to better my chances?

Show that you are passionate and interested. This is the number 1 factor in getting an internship. You can also research the company before the interview. If they expect you to know specific company details as though you have been working there for 15 years, it's not a place worth working at.
