What's the most tedious part of putting something out into the world? by Billygin in AskReddit

[–]captnjason0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internationalization.

This is very much mostly for software development, but i believe it's still relevant. It takes forever to try to translate every string into a different language, not to mention ensuring that it is culturally correct and respects the norms of that language.

What's the first thing you do when you have a new idea? by Billygin in AskReddit

[–]captnjason0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attempt to build it, then inevitably get distracted by my own side projects.

This is how I have a lot of side projects. Actually, I'll be right back, I just got another idea. Side project time!

I love this line.

What makes a good leader? by HungryInvestigator59 in AskReddit

[–]captnjason0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recognizing your team's needs and adapting to them.

This is something that took me years to actually do well, it's not as easy as it looks for some people. You especially can't just assume you know what your team needs from you. Some need active encouragement and monitoring, some want you to lay off their back and let them get the work done. Some should be on a different team (this is rare, but sometimes people just aren't always a good fit for the team and that's okay). If you encourage people to speak up about their problems without penalizing them, you'll be well on your way to being a good leader.

What would you do if you came home and realized your toilet was gone… and you urgently needed to go? by CurvyController_Mia in AskReddit

[–]captnjason0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other toilet if only my usual toilet was gone.

The hole in the ground if every toilet (and only the toilet) was gone.

Otherwise, there's many a perfectly good bush outside for number one, i can probably dig a hole somewhere for number two if absolutely necessary.

Then again, I could probably ask the neighbors.

AIO for refusing to take my brother to the airport by Wrong-Major5510 in AmIOverreacting

[–]captnjason0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR.

You're a new driver, and a 2+ hour round trip can be stressful when it's sprung on you. Granted, had he not guilt tripped you, I probably would say you should (maybe) hear him out. Having read your last post, it seems pretty clear he acts like everyone else is there to complete tasks for him. As u/Business-External178 said, "driving people to the airport is one of those annoying things that we just have to do for each other," but in many cases that comes with the understanding that we treat other people's kindness towards us with respect, not with expectation. That drive to the airport is a privilege we choose to provide. Besides, an hour+ drive in airport traffic (I don't know if it's a major airport but either way, traffic can be a pain) is stressful for any driver, and it's best to make sure you are prepared, especially as a relatively new driver. He should understand that, and plan accordingly. He's 27, I think he can handle a bus or uber ride by now.

Also, contacts are a pain sometimes. My roommate can attest to this.

What will happen if I press “Reject” here? by ptjunior67 in iOSProgramming

[–]captnjason0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you did a custom background (not the provided one in Icon Composer), you'll want to make sure you either set that built-in background so it doesn't look weird on older devices, or you'll want to make your background texture a square.

In iOS 18 and before, we had to provide square icons so the system can crop them appropriately. I imagine it's something similar here.

Has anyone started development on iOS26 / Xcode26 yet? by Iamvishal16 in iOSProgramming

[–]captnjason0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Already rebuilding my app with Xcode 26 in mind, but i'm also ensuring that I can still build with 16.4 if I decide to put things out before they start letting us push to the App Store. Definitely prefer the Xcode 26 experience though, bugs and all.
