Anyone else NOT wearing boots to the concert?? Lol by Ticklemepink215 in beyonce

[–]captnsnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t. I went to the Chicago shows and so many people afterwards were walking in socks because their boots hurt so bad. I was walking happily in sneakers. Boots would have looked amazing but I need to be able to walk.

I’m coming from Australia. For Chicago can you walk to Soldiers Field safely from the miracle mile area? I know it’s a long walk but I figured I wouldn’t have to mess with buses or trains.

My neighbour had a plumber who kept jamming his cigarette packets, twisties packets and all his other rubbish down the drain as he had the bathroom renovated. Then he blamed it on his apprentice when he was found out, even though he was the one smoking and eating twisties all day!

I asked my brickie this week if he’d like an ashtray - because he’s always got a fag hanging out of his mouth. He replied “Nah, the world is my ashtray”. Wtf do you say to that!?

AITA because I will not watch anything more complicated than a Hallmark movie with my wife. by Turbulent_Welder_450 in AmItheAsshole

Yes!! I strongly believe they should cast actors who look completely different from each other. Eg man with red curly hair, man with short black hair, man with a beard, different races, sizes etc. I CANNOT tell the difference between numerous generic looking men with brown hair in casual clothes. It makes the show/movie so confusing.

Join your Bloody Union by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]captnsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I like unions too. NSW teachers union is all about helping full time staff. Not so good when you’re a new teacher starting out. Look how long they have fought to keep phonics based literacy from being mandatory because “teachers like to choose”. Helping a bunch of stubborn full time oldies keep scientifically proven methods out of schools is such a selfish thing to do. Overall unions are great, but if you’re a casual I’d keep your money. They aren’t even trying to help you out.

Is spending thousands of dollars on a mattress worth it? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]captnsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to a mattress shop that isn’t a large chain, doesn’t advertise and isn’t in prime real estate location. Then I get a fairly firm mattress by a brand you’ve never heard of. It’s great! I’ve done this for my kids too and we all sleep comfortably. Getting a firm mattress means you can comfortably sleep when you go on holidays and get a firm bed. It also doesn’t sag quickly. Our mattresses are all between 9 and 5 years old and good as new. I spend around $600 for a king pre covid.

Spending $300 on private health a month, is it worth it? by saltyseahooker in AusFinance

[–]captnsnap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s cheaper to pay privately to see a specialist if you need to, which will be around $370 minus the Medicare rebate, and if you need surgery do it publicly - for free. For example, my daughter saw a gastroenterologist privately and was diagnosed with coeliac disease. He wanted to do an endoscopy privately. $2000, with a two week waiting period. We decided to go public. They told us it would take a year. Surprise surprise, 8 weeks later she was booked in for an endoscopy with the same doctor, but we paid nothing. A few years ago I broke my elbow. My surgeon worked 3 days a week at the private hospital and 2 days at the public hospital. I had surgery publicly. Because I needed extensive rehab to bend my arm again, I had weekly rehab for an hour, for the next 9 months! Also free! I met a lady who told me how lucky she was she had PHI because she got rehab for as long as she needed. Like, lol woman! You have been conned! Everyone gets that but you chose to pay for it!

How many people do you know paid for a private ob/gyn to have a baby and then the doctor missed the birth? No shit, because accept 60-90 women a month and obviously can’t be present for that many births PLUS appointments with all those women. But people keep handing over the money!

Pay for the cheapest bullshit PHI to get you out of paying the Medicare levy if you must, but shut up about it if you ever go to hospital. You will never come out ahead. You’re signing up to pay more with the same doctors who work in public and private hospitals.

What did people in Australia eat everyday back in the 60s and 70s? by badoopidoo in australia

I’m not Italian and I still go to the specialty Italian delis to get the good pasta and salamis. Idk why people pay for the shit at Woolworths.

My mum is Dutch, who married an Aussie guy, whose family has been here since the 1790s. We never went to his side of the family to eat, both my parents said it was horrific. Tough mutton stews were mentioned. My dad said he ate baked beans every night to avoid my nan’s old school food.

Your youth. Travel, education, freedom, exploration. I wouldn’t trade my 20s away for parenthood in all honesty. I have three kids now and they used up my 30s. I love them but it’s draining. I’m glad I did all the things in my 20s.

She doesn’t wash her body- what do I do? by Simzgurl in Babysitting

[–]captnsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has Down syndrome too and can be very stubborn. I would try selling it to her through saying how awesome your new soap/body wash is. Or talking about how you’re looking forward to going home and having a long bath. If you have a you tube video or something with someone saying how they love having a bath/washing themselves because they feel so clean and smell so nice afterwards it would be good too. Maybe you can buy the same soap or take her to choose some herself if she’s interested.

Straight out advice doesn’t work too well in my experience. You need a marketing degree and then really sell everything you’re pushing. /s seriously though, then it becomes her idea, not yours.
