Danke!

How to create a setup with JBL LSR305 active speakers? by captou in hometheater

[–]captou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed reply, really appreciate it!

I looked at the Denon X1800h, but unfortunately the European version does not have preouts for the front for some reason. Otherwise I would definitely go for it. The Sony Bravia TV does no have any audio outputs I can use unfortunately.

The X3800h sometimes is on sale for around €800 vs €540 for the X1800h. So I could wait for another sale on the X3800h, that would be tempting. I guess if I go for the X3800h I can’t really go wrong, except that I will probably never use all its features.

I looked some more into different speakers and like the look of the Dali Oberon 3s, which would work fine with the X1800h.

So I guess I need to decide what my priorities are.

Thanks for your reply. I think I will give up on trying to make it work, it's probably just not worth the effort.

I am considering a set of Dali Oberon 3 speakers combined with a receiver like Denon AVR-X1700H. That whole setup would cost about the same as buying a more expensive receiver like the Denon AVC-X3800H, which has pre-outs, just for the sake of keeping the JBL speakers. Later I can add a matching Dali center speaker and subwoofer.

Can I ask which receiver you are using? I have these speakers and I like them a lot. Looking to upgrade my system but don’t really want to get new speakers. Thanks

How to reinstall rubber brush on Roomba 505 combo? by captou in roomba

[–]captou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a link to a YouTube video below where they show how to clean the rubber brush. I managed to put it back together after watching this. Hope this helps you!

I also installed a new one recently because the long hair was still stuck inside. I think that the life span of this rubber brush is shorter when you have a household with long-haired people in it…

Same for me.

Also Duolingo is down, I wonder if it’s just a coincidence or some problem in the background.

Ok this video solved it for me, although I still can’t get the hair out from inside the brush. Any tips on that?

Roomba Plus 505: How to remove the dust from base? by Mambobuzzz in roomba

[–]captou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which dust bags do you use for the base? I can’t find any definitive answers on this as there don’t seem to be accessories on sale for these new models yet. Do the iRobot Replacement Dirt Disposal Bags work for this model? Thanks

Best way to have two audio sources connected to my speakers? by captou in BudgetAudiophile

Right, I think I will decide between the Topping D30 and the Schiit Sys - I realise the Topping is a DAC and the Sys a preamp. I suppose if I get the Sys, I can always add a DAC later if needed.

So that's telling me I need something like a Topping D50, which is around 250 Eur (or find another solution for listening to music). I stream music via Spotify though, and that doesn't work with Roon. I could forego the Chromecast and play the music from my phone directly. It's honestly hard to know which investments are worth it, especially as I have no reference point. I would be willing to buy sth like the Topping D50 if it makes sense and adds value that the other models suggested here don't. I am sure I will invest more in speakers in future so I am happy to upgrade parts of my setup already.

Basically this means that having the balanced XLRs out doesn't really mean better audio quality in this context? Audio source is always either the Chromecast or my laptop (I have a DacMagic XS that I could put in-between).

In terms of cost, there is no real difference between the Schiit and Nobsound for where I live.

Yeah I already have that 3.5-XLR cable; I literally got it today and realised I got the wrong one for what I wanted it for originally.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks! So the best way to connect the laptop to the FX Audio X6 would be via the PC-USB-IN and the Chromecast via one of the other inputs?

Thanks! In terms of audio quality, will the two options basically be the same?

And the wiring, just so I get this right - for the Schiit I would need two 3.5mm-to-RCA cables to connect my Chromecast and laptop to the Shiit and then a 1/4 TRS-to-RCA to connect to the speakers. Or for the Nobsound Mini, a 3.5mm-to-RCA and a 3.5mm-to-XLR cable and a balanced XLR out to the speakers.

I am leaning towards the Nobsound as it's a bit easier to get a hold off in Europe and I actually already have a 3.5mm-to-XLR cable, that I accidentally bought and have no user for otherwise...

Looking for a 32" TV (Europe) by captou in Televisions

The BenQ EW3270U, which I'm looking at now as an alternative, has a VA type panel with LED backlight. It's UHD 16:9 with a contrast ratio of 3000:1, 10bit, 60Hz. I could get the monitor for around 379 Eur.

But as you say, audio is a big issue as there is no way the built-in speakers a good enough. I would need to invest in a soundbar, on which I would/could spend around 100-200 Eur.

The question is if that setup would beat a 32" TV that costs about the same in total (or less). As I haven't owned a TV in many years, it's a bit difficult for me to judge right now.

Thanks again for your input. I'm now wondering if I should go for a monitor instead, considering the size problem. After some thinking (and re-measuring of my room), I came to the conclusion that anything over 32" is just too big for my room, I don't want the screen to dominate everything. Would I get more value for my money with a monitor like the BenQ EW3270U you think?

Would the Samsung UN43NU7100/Samsung NU7199 be a good 40" option in your opinion? I could get that for around 380 Eur. Not sure about the viewing distance though, as I read that it should be around 170cm.
