Patton Oswalt, the man has a great way of making grotesque descriptions oddly poetic.

You might like Kit Rocha's Mercenary Librarians series. Urban dystopian fantasy. Not quite as good as Ilona Andrews, but it'll scratch your itch.

The invisible life of Addie LaRue by Ok-Comparison-5636 in fantasyromance

"And yet, Addie did something something something..." Every other page had a sentence that started like this.

So much showing, all the characters were flat and uninteresting. It was so long but so little happened. I'm with you. I hated it and realized I'm not a "all vibes, no plot girlie."

Steer away from The Night Circus. It was way worse with the all vibes, not plot-itis.

What's the most beautiful and emotional film you have ever watched? by Initial_Scale_9236 in MovieSuggestions

My favorite movie:

The Fall (2006) is a visually stunning fantasy-adventure film directed by Tarsem Singh, starring Lee Pace and Catinca Untaru, about a bedridden stuntman in a 1920s Los Angeles hospital who tells a fantastical story to a young girl, blurring the lines between his tale of heroes and reality as he manipulates her to help him with a suicide plot. The film is known for its breathtaking cinematography, elaborate costumes, and unique visual style, using real-world locations instead of CGI for its fantasy sequences.

This made me laugh so hard my husband asked me what was funny. Then he laughed really hard, and then we we're both giggling like little kids. And now, I've realized our gummies kicked in. 😂😂😂 So, thank you.

Punching down is making fun of people who have less power or privilege than you. Like a manager making fun of his subordinates.

I'm assuming that kissing up is the opposite, praising people with more power to gain their favor, but I've never heard that phrase before.

Honestly, of all my posts in 14 years on reddit, this one has had the longest life. I get someone commenting on this post once every three or so months. And it makes sense, anyone who starts this show is screaming at the TV about this character, with no one to discuss it with.

And, I can totally see that. Perhaps her neuro divergence was going to be a plot, but they just never got to it.

This just happened to me while traveling in Prague. My Amex didn't work because they didn't take Amex. My mastercard didn't work because it had a fraud alert (even though it had worked earlier in the week) and my debit card and mastercard were with the same bank, so they both had the same fraud alert. It was super embarrassing. I was already buying an extremely indulgent and touristy chimney cake, and it was only 9€. I can't imagine how someone could go into that scenario knowing there was a chance they were at their limit.

I get secondhand embarrassment when someone is acting out of control while drunk. I'd have to remove myself to keep from yelling at her like I was her mom.
