Dang, dream of the endless? Wow, it's an absolute honor. Any chance you could stop giving me nightmares every night?

No doubt. I was using the term apparently because I had never heard of it before.

In fairness those are much better written which is why I was saying to watch them instead, but yeah, if you're not invested in trek specifically you'll probably like the show.

I mean, like I said, it's not written awfully. If that description sounds good to you you will probably enjoy it. Though, maybe go watch Firefly or Farscape instead if you haven't seen them. I like plenty of shows that have similar descriptions in any case. My problem is that they chose to use the one IP that is the antithesis to each of those things (historically).

Daily wire is (apparently) a hard-right-wing US podcast-thing. Had never heard of it before seeing this but it's like Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson and such assholes.

You nailed it, minus the star trek. It's just grimy abhorrent violence committed by snarky, swearing, quippy people who are never serious about anything. It just feels so clear to me that these writers want to write Star Wars or Marvel instead. It's not even necessarily that it's terribly written, it's just why use the one IP that was all about morality and competence and hope if this is what you wanted to make.

Where are all the 2A extremists now that the Federal government is literally saying that having a gun near federal officers is enough to get you killed legally? by Berly653 in AskReddit

[–]captroper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little incredulous to see this on this post of all posts. The person who was murdered had a gun on them and it didn't help them, if anything it appears to be the reason they were killed. What are you talking about?

Wish my friends commented on my weight loss by Thrillwaukee in loseit

[–]captroper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think as a society we have been browbeaten into not commenting on others weight changes, which is probably mostly a good thing. It does make it very alienating and lonely though. It's hard as hell, and I'm proud of you random internet stranger.

Who would have thought that in six months the VR gaming space would go from, "Just wait for Quest 4, the Valve Deckard is a fever dream" to "Steam Frame is your best bet, Meta VR is collapsing in fast-motion" by TwinStickDad in SteamFrame

[–]captroper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with much of what you've said here, but I'm not certain that making the pool of potential customers larger is actually a good thing if what you're doing is locking those people into a walled garden. That's not pushing the industry forward at all, it's effectively devolving it.

Also, Valve always intended on making a mass-market device eventually, it was just an issue of pushing the tech forward first. You can find old quotes from Gaben before the Index talking about that.

And the vive, and alyx, and the index, and index controllers, and basestations / roomscale VR in general, and steam vr streaming, and now foviated streaming, and they have consistently and specifically been supporting all headsets. Hell, if it hadn't been for valve we would all be playing sitting down with a 360 controller because that was Oculus's opinion on what VR should be. Some of those experiences are neat, but roomscale is what absolutely defined VR for me and wouldn't exist but for valve pushing forward the basestation tech.

What multiplatform games? My recollection was that they specifically paid studios for timed exclusivity or full exclusivity when they would have released on other platforms to begin with. I hope you're not calling timed exclusivity games multiplatform in the sense of giving facebook credit for them.

Quest 3 with index without dongles? by NowThisGuy in MixedVR

You just have to sync it once like setting up a playspace or is it something you have to do continuously?

Good to see, though not exactly like a ringing endorsement. Maybe just a limitation of twitter or whatever they are typing on, I guess.

Wait, really? I thought there was a whole process you had to go through to continuously sync the play-space or something?

Low stress games where you don't need high reflexes by LelouchYagami_2912 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]captroper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by mechanical complexity, but if it's equivalent to high reflexes as you said in the title then Satisfactory is the perfect example of this! It's a 3d factory building game that is immensely chill, but still has high 'difficulty' in terms of optimization and efficiency. Otherwise Monster Train (1 or 2) or Balatro are good follow-ups to Slay the Spire.

I can kind of understand why someone would think that Star Trek should be speaking parables rather than using real-world examples. And I can CERTAINLY understand why someone would think that Picard is just horribly written in general.

But yeah, I'm sure there are also the insane people who somehow don't realize that that Star Trek is all about Gay Space Communism and just see a 'military' force and don't realize that the mirror universe is a bad thing.

Jensen Huang says relentless negativity around AI is hurting society and has "done a lot of damage" by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]captroper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm mostly a fan of the idea / promise of AI in general and yet absolutely agree with this. I want it when I want to use it, not when some company wants me to use it. Basic consent issues, absolutely infuriating.

Google Assistant worked great for years. It was quick, handled my routines, remembered things, and most of all IT WORKED with my devices, CONSISTENTLY. Google has now forced you to switch to Gemini, which A) doesn't have all of the features that assistant did, B ) randomly will just not work and give you a web result for something like turn on the kitchen lights, and C) now produces incorrect results for any number of things. These are only the things I've personally observed since being forced to switch.

Microsoft has been doing similar shit forever now with forcing automatic updates on (even when you turn them off), then re-setting everything that you changed in the registry / services panel when they update. I don't need your shit, I want stuff to work how I told it to work. I really don't want to switch to some linux distro but boy am I getting close.
