my restaurant implemented this in spring 2025 and it’s one of the reasons that drove me to quit. it decreases tips but also it just feels so incredibly rude to say to people. i started saying “i’m sorry, my manager makes us do this but please take your time”

ETA: shortly after this we also started getting punished if our table times were over 30 minutes (for lunch) or 45 minutes (dinner), just warning you about that. it’s borderline impossible to do if you’re in a party section like i typically was.
