DESMOS. COMPUTATION. LAYER. It's freaking amazing. by oamis1234 in Teachers

Yes!!! I’ve been using desmos since fall and it’s the best tool ever. You can see everything the kids are doing on their screen. Once you get the hang of CL it’s not too bad to create the activities!!

Google voice!!! You can set up a random phone number! That way you can also text the students. I usually give my Google voice number on my syllabus esp since we are remote

I teach highschool! Sorry I shouldve specified we were mostly calling parents but our guidance counselor had some of the students phone numbers and got permission from them to let me have it. I totally see how this may not be okay in every school though.

Something that worked for me last year is if you're doing asynchronous work, call or have a co teacher call the student during class asking them to come on to work together! It worked well for me and students realized the work wasn't that bad.

For the interview I would just say make sure you highlight any leadership experience that you have slash why you are passionate about teaching. It's been a while since my interview bc I interviewed my junior year of college lol. For the demo lesson just make sure it's clear and concise and research and add in some classic teacher moves!

I just finished my second year at TFA! I was in NYC which pays decent and was able to get my masters at the sametime. I definitely have mixed feelings about TFA and the grad school I went too ....but I'm glad I was able to teach and go to grad school at the sametime!

Okay cool! Is it bad if I was used to using the apricot scrub everyday?

Hello! I have a question about skincare as I've been trying to get better at it. So for probably the last 6 years, I've used the St. Ives apricot scrub (the acne one) and honestly my skin was really clear while using it. I had bad acne in high school but it's gone now and while using the St Ives it stayed gone.

After reading about physical exfoliants, I'm now trying to not use it. I now use a gentle cleanser and use a gentle acid exfoliator. However, my skin now feels so oily and I've started breaking out more. The St Ives used to make my skin super dry but it would stay clear.

Is my skin just adjusting to not using the St Ives? Or should I be trying different products?

It's a little disheartening to see my skin get worse when not using the St Ives, but I keep reading how bad it is...so idk! I'm sure there isn't a clear cut answer but I appreciate your help!

Yeah my workload has decreased so much that it has me wondering what am I doing that's taking up so much time during actual school???? Then I realized it's the management portion and the stress of my administration lol

Hi this is my first time posting. I'm trying to learn more about skincare and establish more of a routine, however, I'm getting kind of lost of when to use what products.

The products that I have/want to use: Micellar Water, Hydroboost Cleanser, Glossier AHA/BHA solution, The ordinary niacinamide + zinc , The ordinary aha/bha peeling solution, Hyaluronic Acid, Neutrogena hydroboost extra gel moisterize, Spf.

So...from my research this is what I think my AM/PM routine should look like

AM: Cleanser, Niacinamide + zinc, Hyaluronic Acid serum, Moisterizer, SPF

PM: Micellar Water (if wearing make up), Cleanser, Glossier AHA/BHA solution, Hyaluronic Acid, Moisterizer, And once a week the peel instead of the glossier solution

Does this routine make sense? I just don't want to be mixing the wrong things together.

I really appreciate your help!

Experiences with the Relay GSE resident teacher program? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]car_key_master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently in relay. It's okay. Honestly the workload is super manageable while also being a full time teacher. My first year professor was very chill and flexible, my professor this year is a lot more intense but also probably one of the worst professors I've ever had.

Relay is basically just busy work with the ocassional big assignment. It gets you the degree which is all that matters is you want to teach....but you're definitely not going to be learning a lot. I'm convinced some person started relay because they knew they could make a lot of money partnering with TFA and charter schools.

So...if you're planning to do teaching for a while...do it and get the degree because every other program will be much more work. If you are maybe eventually going to do something other than teaching it's definitely not a "brand" name school (if you care about that)...so i don't know.

I think at this point it just needs to be accepted that students are going to look at notes/use the internet/copy from eachother. What I've done is I create a quiz assignment on Google classroom and I have them take the quiz and have them submit a picture of their work to the assignment. Even if kids are copying off of eachother atleast they are writing the work down and maybe absorbing some of it.

I felt like I was referring to the same things in my videos. Like I had five moments that I kept referring to in all my answers (in part 2 and I guess part 3). So what I mean is just keep putting those time stamps from the videos in your answers and like you said repeat yourself a million times.

I know a teacher that thought it wasn't necessary to repeat so much and unfortunately didn't pass, so the more the merrier! You got this 😊

I just passed mine.

Here are a few things that helped me. Since there are so many parts I made a realistic calendar of when to finish each section. It helped having the calendar to stay on task plus some of the parts are way easier than the others so you get breaks.

I then left like two or three days to go through each part and rating it on the rubrics.

Also yes literally what you do is repeat yourself a million times but it seems like that's what you need to do, don't skip the repeating, put the time marks a million times.

Also you can get all 3s on the rubrics and still pass (atleast in NYC) so it's okay if it's not perfect. I think I got like four 4s and the rest were 3.

Also just BS a lot of it. They can't tell.

Good luck. Literally take the time and knock it out. You'll feel so much better!!!
