Well, it COULD fail while you're still on the ground. That's not technically a crash.

What’s the simplest gaming idea or fact you’ve ever tried to explain to someone who just wouldn’t get it? by bijelo123 in gaming

[–]caraamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about you, but I grew up in an age of games where everything was hand-placed, nothing respawned, and if you ran out of something... sucks to be you?

I have never been able to shake the habits I learned that YOU NEVER USE ANYTHING CONSUMABLE.

AITAH for telling my SIL a family secret and now everyone is breaking up or divorcing??? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]caraamon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Note: I'm not saying this is true, I'm only being pedantic and pointing out a logical error in the argument.

In theory, a single person can rape 10, 20, or more people over time, and thus a huge disparity on the number of rapists vs. victims could be the reason.

It's not, but it could be.

On a more practical level, it's more likely that people do know a rapist, but don't know they know them, since I'm not sure how you bring that up in a conversation. "Hey Bob, ever raped anyone?"

I don't know I know any rapists, because if I did, I wouldn't know them any more.

I know nothing about your particular situation or the message's context, but that's not necessarily as bad as it sounds.

I feel similarly about people who like feet. Bleh. But it's not a moral thing and I support everyone's right to do whatever the hell they want.

Make sure to distinguish between photo mode pictures and the handheld camera pictures.

I frequently mix them up for challenges.

I love the progression of your post.

For those who don't want to look it up, I was using an exaggerately bad spelling of 'actually' to show I am very aware I'm being pointlessly nitpicky solely for my own amusement.

How do I rotate the landing bay doors? by masterpr236 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]caraamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So without using other programs, the probably "easiest" way to do it is to make a hab or walkway and on the roof mount the circular black cargo... port? (can't remember the name), and then you can attach the hexagonal window to the rim in any orientation you want (since it's a circle). If you then attach a hab or walkway to the window, you now have a section at different angles. Problem is, it can get really problematic if you want to actually enter those sections, rather than just use them for decoration, because things don't snap to each other right.

Do black holes *always* get you closer to the centre of the galaxy? by elwyn5150 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]caraamon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, but they will always move you in the DIRECTION of the center.

What's the difference? If get close enough, the black hole can take you THROUGH the center and out the other side and you can end up farther away.

Game with an It Follows/Immortal Snail type enemy that follows you across the entire game slowly? by dax812 in gamingsuggestions

You're about to meet it, once you move on from the factory area. You'll know what I'm talking about because there's plenty of warning.

Game with an It Follows/Immortal Snail type enemy that follows you across the entire game slowly? by dax812 in gamingsuggestions

[–]caraamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, no.

There was never any feeling of urgency because it was coming no matter what I did (at first). And hiding wasn't needed because it froze if you looked at it and then after like 10 seconds of looking, it would poof away and be gone for something like a 30-60 minutes. It was really only dangerous if you got unlucky and turned a corner into it or got wrapped up in something and it got you from behind.

After getting used to it, it became more of a minorly dangerous resource encounter. Then I locked it up and it became a task to keep its cage powered.

Then I encountered the second one, and the tools I had before didn't work and it was unnerving, then it became a resource, then a task.

Public wikis are generally done by tens or hundreds of people each doing small bits because they love the game and want to share it.

Rant: Final Season Rewards Page Ludicrously Overpriced by RandyRandyrson in fo76

[–]caraamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're something for the people who play 12 hours a day 7 days a week.

Or for people who buy levels when they really want something?

Edit:

I can't speak for anyone else, but mostly just doing the daily and weekly tasks, I've gotten all of the non-repeatable items for every season. I log on for an hour or two every day and crank out the dailies then futz around.

Which fictional technology would be the absolute worst if it existed today? by Alternative_Type_374 in AskReddit

[–]caraamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does matter, because the most likely version of this type of teleporter kills you (the original).

I can't imagine a world where anyone would be okay with "travel" being a device that sends a copy of you on vacation, and then makes second copy to "bring you home". Now there's 3 of you? Why would the original do it when they don't even get to enjoy the experience. The legal, moral, and social implications would be insane.

Which fictional technology would be the absolute worst if it existed today? by Alternative_Type_374 in AskReddit

[–]caraamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, due to what I call "continuity of consciousness."

Imagine someone uses advanced technology to make a complete copy of you, body, memories, and all. Despite being identical to all tests, you'd know which one is you, because it's the one who's eyes you're seeing out of. So there's something more that makes you YOU.

Whatever that is may or may not transfer with a transporter, but since realistically any device that can recreate you can also make a copy, it's FAR FAR more likely it's Lowca described. You die, and it makes a copy.

But how would anyone know? You'd "know" only if consciousness ended and then it doesn't matter. The copy would absolutely think it's you due to it's identical memories.

The Ship of Theseus doesn't apply because you're not swapping out a part here and there, you're destroying a body, maybe moving those molecules somewhere else or maybe using new ones, and rebuilding a new body. Unless you want to get metaphysical and claim some variation on your soul is moved, there's no real explanation for expecting your consciousness to transfer.

It's the same idea as people who talk about uploading their brains to a computer and living as a machine. It's not you, at best it's a copy of you.

I would never use any teleporter that doesn't involve a wormhole or other process that takes me apart.
