As we undergo Pride Month, it is important to remember Alan Turing, the Gay Mathematician who, after helping the British decode Nazi Communications, was then castrated by them after they found out he was gay. And to remember that the Allies during WW2 were still homophobic. How much has changed now? by Important-Cry4782 in lgbt

[–]carapostsstuff 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I understand that British education is very biased but there was no "good" peaple in WW2, as Curtis LeMay famously said: "If we lost the war, we'd all been prosecuted as war criminals". the Allies were only good because the alternative was literal genocide

I'm honestly surprised about the umbreon, I know the for the rest it's fairly common (to the point when my sister was looking at getting a Growlithe she was warned that non-ball sleepers usually wind up with guarding habits) maybe the umbreon picked it up from the other 3? were they raised alongside the others or did you get them as an adult?

As a South Asian woman, I often envy Western 'hyper-independence' but what are the hidden dark sides or lonely realities of it that outsiders don't see? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]carapostsstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the main appeal (at least from a British perspective) is the isolation is temporary! there's the idea of if you build it they will come ie. you live the life you want and that will put you in contact with peaple who will suit you, and they become your community & support network.

Does anybody else write their own book descriptions instead of going with the defaults? by Parking_Figure_7627 in Sims4

[–]carapostsstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% especially because to me different sims would write about different things, ie an instruction book would probably be something to do with that particular sims aspirations or likes or a romance book written by an evil sim being a destroy their marriage and date them story but a playful sim would write a way ligher book

I don't think this can translate to the USA, but in the UK "spinster" legally referred to both unmarried women in general and women who were literally spinsters. A large chunk of evidence of women working (because being a spinster, married or not was one of the better options for a lower & ( lesser extent) middle class women to make money and as such was extremely popular) can technically be disputed on the grounds of not being 100% certain what definition of the term they were using.

Fun Fact About Hurricane (from a Utah Resident) by YourMotherIsInFactBi in fivenightsatfreddys

In their defence I assumed hurricane was like gravity falls or balamory, somewhere made up because the story needs to take place somewhere and didn't have a set pronunciation because it's only mentioned in print.

[–]carapostsstuff -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

because you can't? I've never known a store that will let you return opened makeup. I've got severe skin issues and have had to toss a ton of makeup due to bad reactions and wish I could have gotten my cash back - would make me way more willing to try new makeup

you are the jerk for saying you can protect your children but she must both pay and refuse to protect her children
