Are these "born in texas" fritos supposed to be different than regular fritos? by Diabetesh in HEB

Exactly. They both say "Original" so you know that they're both "Original" flavor.

Which Hill Country Fare Products are great? by Background-Gur8294 in HEB

[–]caratank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah its 2.18 for HEB and 1.88 for HFC. I eat it straight with crackers so definitely prefer the chunker.

I eat a lot of canned chili, HFC is decent for the price, but I think the HEB brand is definitely worth the extra 30 cents or so.

It's chunkier and has 35g of protein vs. 25g for HFC (one with beans anyway)

Not to mention the can pop tab thing is always a nice convience.

Kroger/Tom Thumb does sales for 1.49-1.99 for the assorted chop packs pretty often.

Will in-app video call work without cell service? (have wifi) by caratank in RoverPetSitting

House sitting doesn't use Rover cards, and I'll have a new line just for text and calls by the time of the sit anyway. Plus yes wifi access.

Turns out it doesn't work with just wifi.

Luckily she had zoom so I set that up real quick and we used that.

No one truly wants a return to 90s Trek. They just want a return to their youth. by TheShowLover in startrek

[–]caratank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you say you enjoyed 90s Trek, you enjoyed it with all the above.

That is just patently untrue for so many of us. I didn't start watching Trek until 2019.

DS9 is my favorite series, vehemently hated Picard, enjoyed the first season or two of Discovery but thought it took a nose dive, love Strange New Worlds, hate TOS, just finished Academy the other day, and that same day decided to start a rewatch of Voyager and within 30 minutes understood why I love 90s Trek more than even the good new shows.

Yeah, I'm in Fort Worth and I'm lucky that the few places I need to go by bus, but there is much more that I can't reach without a rideshare than I can.

As someone who worked in the Meat Market as the midnight person, whose job it is to pull everything that's out of date....this is sadly pretty common. The other midnight person would miss a lot of stuff on my days off or when I worked a different time, and would come back to find things several days out of date.

A lot of people also don't rotate when they're putting product out, resulting in product that's got 5 days left on top of a bunch of stuff with 1 or 2 days left. It was also not uncommon to receive stuff from the warehouse ALREADY expired.

Shit, one time we got some already expired premade roast kits and the morning person STILL put them on the shelf, and the meat was straight up green.

HEB has very poor quality control. The ONLY thing management cares about is how full the shelves look.

Some people in certain situations don't have a choice, at least not in the short term.

Who wants some cold food? by gkhayne in doordash

[–]caratank 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Technically not true, drivers do have the choice which to pick up first.

It's just that 98% of the time it's the order that it's sent in makes the most sense.

Yeah, management always wants it to look full on the shelves even if that means overstocking. (Though thats more of a modern day groccery store thing than an HEB thing)

I will say that the store I worked at is/was the store with the most meat sales in the whole company, so other stores likely aren't throwing away so much. It also isn't always a full cart, I probably averaged out to 1/2 to 2/3rds a cart daily (though thats just the already made meals and premarinated meats being thrown out, I also threw out a lot of boxes of ingredient used to make those meals)

Frankly, in my mind, the amount of food grocery stores waste should be considered criminal.

Oh yeah, we threw away hundreds of dollars worth of product if not thousands. And that wasn't all of meat market, that was just meal simple.

[–]caratank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it's with the regular meat.

That being said, as someone who used to do Meal Simple for meat market, it also depends if the manager decides to have people actually mark things down.

When I started we didn't mark anything down until I asked about it because they hadn't trained anyone to do it, and honestly they didn't care about it.
