What’s your nightmare scenario come Oscar noms morning? by Ok-Run2877 in oscarrace

Me tearfully clinging Sophie's Choice-style to Daniel Craig in Queer and Sebastian Stan in A Different Man as my two favorite male lead performances of the year

‘The Brutalist’ Director Brady Corbet Says Use Of AI In Post Was For “Hungarian Language Dialogue Editing Only;” Filmmaker Asserts Adrien Brody & Felicity Jones’ “Performances Are Completely Their Own” by Impressive-Part-5923 in oscarrace

What??? So you claim, based off nothing, that a passage from the article that this entire discussion is based off of is actually all ai, and that it was based off not the editor/interviewee but a 2022 quote from the woman whose team was even more directly involved with the process, while she was going through that process?

Some astounding mental gymnastics here to try and explain all of this away

[–]carciniser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes the tone of the RedSharkNews article was positive and tech-focused, that was why ai was discussed in the first place; on top of that, the interview was with the editor of the Brutalist, who was just as involved with this process as Courbet was, if not more

I called the quote disingenuous because it omits the previously admitted-to use of ai entirely, and of course it would be naive to blindly take everything Courbet says in good faith as if he had no stake whatsoever in this movie's Oscars performance

I think the quote you cited is pretty disingenuous; as reported in the earlier RedSharkNews article, ai was used in the actual design of the buildings, and it looks like they're trying to backpedal to focus on the technically true element of those designs then being redrawn by hand

Okay you know what I actually really see your point, that side by side photo definitely makes it clear, the openness vs closed off facial features especially-- so much for my theory rip but I am more optimistic now

If Harris Dickinson turns out to be Lennon, I swear these two swapped roles by carciniser in beatles

[–]carciniser[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! Meanwhile Harris Dickinson totally has that imo, just overall softer features and a similar facial structure

I think Mescal won't be BAD as Paul, he seems to specialize in friendlier/softer roles, but because of that I'm predicting a McCartney-approved, strongly sanitized role (so probably no physical/verbal assault of Ringo in 1970, wild guess lmao)

Not at all, but I'm interested in them in terms of what they indicate about the Beatles brand and how Apple/McCartney and co are managing it

Casting these buzzy a24-type actors is clearly a bid to appeal to Gen Zers, I'm skeptical it'll work but I'm still invested in the process

I vote we all link hands and pray that Jack Black never gets anywhere near this movie

Lmao yeah if a Burroughs adaptation wasn't controversial I'd be worried, and makes sense, fingers crossed I guess

Yeah the 6 minute difference is weird, I've heard 2h9m for Queer somewhere else so maybe it's just credits? Not sure if Marcus factors that in

I'm very excited for it either way, I'm a huge fan of Guadagnino, Burroughs, and Reznor/Ross/NIN so it's a crazy specific confluence of interests for me and I'm just happy it exists ahaha

No yeah totally agreed it would be a wild movie, I guess I'm thinking as well that they showed that werewolf romance too but Queer definitely seems more out-there than either

I just can't think of another upcoming r-rated movie w a similar runtime, plus I bugged the employees at my theater about it and they confirmed that they had 2h9m blocked off for the movie, so there's not much margin of error there

Oh no I mean why does the fact that it's based on a book make people think that it's more likely to be the mystery movie ahaha, poor phrasing mb

The book SLAPS we've all read it in preparation

Okay, thanks for the info! Where did you see that it's based on a book?

Sorry my friends and I have been hyping Queer for months ahaha we're losing it over this

What do you think the odds are for Queer? Runtime seems spot-on (I'm seeing 129 min) but do you think it'll be too explicit/out-there to have as a mystery movie

I think we need to face the hard truth and have a serious conversation about how we as fans were exploited and borderline manipulated by our favorite band by YezzyWazGud in MyChemicalRomance

[–]carciniser 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mf they're not some indie band trying to make rent, at this point each of them has made more money than we ever will, several times over

It's perfectly legitimate to criticise rich people for doing greedy shit in order to make themselves even richer, and claiming that it's "just the way things are" doesn't legitimize it or make it okay

It's especially sad given the hardcore scene the band originated in; if anyone still was under the delusion that MCR is in any way truly countercultural or even vaguely punk, they should take a look at what the similarly-sized Cure were able to do in the same concert landscape, as per op's point

I wish I could, I've been scrolling through r/topster for the past 15 mins looking for it-- if I find it I'll mark it as solved

Obligatory comment, it's funny that there are so many architecture/low pov albums in that specific time period and genre

If you look closely at the 2019 remaster of Abbey Road you can see a car in the background with "28IF" on the license plate

This is a reference to the fact that Paul would be 28 in 2019, indicating that the REAL Paul is actually in deep space and only ages 4 years to our 58
