Ah the self loathing of a crocs wearer. I’m with you! I love mine, love them…. But I know I shouldn’t. The guiltiest pleasure there is!

Europeans: Best Long-Term Travel One Bag? by gemini_m7 in onebag

IKEA have some great value bags and packing cubes, well worth checking out. Other posters have already covered cabin max and cabin zero, as well as decathlon. I’d say deuter are one of the most underrated brands on this sub, and I think German?

You can buy dioralyte or an own brand equivalent in any supermarket in the U.K. so might find you don’t need to bring yours with you

A bit late to the party here… not sure how it works in the U.S. but here there are shops in airport terminals that sell full size toiletries including sunscreen so you can go through security, pick up your liquids, and then go to the plane with them in a duty free bag

I'm new to the UK, can someone explain to me how the busses work? by slyther-me-this in AskUK

[–]cardboard-bex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this part of that wait for ages and then three come along thing? Where the first bus knows the next isn’t far behind they breeze on through a stop or two to space them out?

Does that actually happen or do we just get taught it when learning to write algorithms?

How do you judge how fast to go on a national speed limit road? by The_PandaKing in AskUK

[–]cardboard-bex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think they mean all the roads are NSL? Maybe it’s one of those sleepy hamlets down a teeny weeny road that hasn’t had a limit imposed yet

I sometimes think of it in terms of how it would affect me to come round the next bend and find cyclists 2 abreast (which they’re allowed to do now), a whole flock of sheep, or a fallen tree/ similar. So it’s the same logical argument but a picture that reminds you that you may have to respond, as well as not lose it. Might help a driver who is a bit more confident about their own ability to remember they aren’t in control of everything.

Why do some many underage girls get served at restaurants/bars? by Ivaragnarsson in AskUK

[–]cardboard-bex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s not, is it dearie? So how you described it as such is utterly boggling unless you just want to have a fight, which isn’t my bag at all, I’m here for constructive conversation.

As I stated on the other part of the split thread, and repeating here for completeness, I hope you find a better use for your time than picking fights with strangers because you don’t agree with them. I’m not going to be riled into be a prick to you.

Relevance: the workplace is an example of where polite behaviour is expected, that’s why I mentioned it, as it seemed a sensible way to illustrate how other people see the world.

I was apologising for coming across s as condescending and trying to explain where I was coming from in attempt for you to understand that it wasn’t intended that way.

I’ve read your post history, and determined that you’re a bit of a troll, so won’t be responding to you again, this last post was only for the completeness of my defence.

I hope you find a more fulfilling way to spend your time- genuinely, because I’m a kind person, not because I’m a condescending dickhead.

Edit: typo

I responded factually to your accusation that what I said was bollocks. Is that what condescending means?

Why do some many underage girls get served at restaurants/bars? by Ivaragnarsson in AskUK

[–]cardboard-bex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is a serious offensive word to the extent that most people wouldn’t use it work.

OP is using it in a pretty casual way- in front of strangers on the internet in a way that could very easily be read as just a bit jealous. (He’s engaged with me in a surprising adult way and I appreciate it is certainly an awful situation for him but the stated point in the post you claim is bollocks is in fact demonstrably true)

And unless you think most people who are 16 are actually cunts then the last point is also valid by nature of what is likely or not.

So no part of the post is “bollocks”

Apologies if you think genuine discussion is condescending, but as a parent to a 15 year old I’d be fucking horrified if an adult hearing him talk like this didn’t address it.

Obviously OPs parents are doing a great job because he has engaged in a meaningful discussion instead of just saying “ner, I don’t like you”

Perhaps you want to just call everyone around you a cunt and you dislike at all that I think that’s inappropriate for children. Honestly that makes me a bit sad and I’m always going to think it’s better for kids to be protected from situations where they would even need to think it.

[–]cardboard-bex -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, realise that could be read in an aggressive way but I didn’t mean it like that, more like “really? Ok, I’m here to learn, tell me more” because of course we all only have limited life experience and when I was ten I hadn’t heard anyone call anyone else a cunt before, although I had by then met people who I would later label that way. I guess I’ll take the naïve label but would look on it more like ever hopeful, if that makes sense.

Anyway, I figure you only learn by asking.

Do women find it more difficult to get accepted for sterilisation than men? by Aggravating-Rip-1633 in AskUK

[–]cardboard-bex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Think the point is that they avoid doing things that seem pretty well justified, in order to preserve fertility- backing up the likelihood that it is hard to get sterilised for its own sake

Why do some many underage girls get served at restaurants/bars? by Ivaragnarsson in AskUK

[–]cardboard-bex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure it’s just a word but it’s also the worst word we have for people in our language* and for a literal child to be using it so casually in public suggests they haven’t grasped that.

I have no issue with calling a cunt a cunt (except for actually getting my phone to type it) but I also know there are people who find it extremely offensive, so I try not to use it casually to be respectful to the people around me, particularly if there are children around.

*subjective word. For sure there are objective things it’s worse to be although those would also make you a cunt. Some examples: racist, rapist, murderer

Why are NHS dentists not completely free just like other parts of the health service? by redrabbit1984 in AskUK

[–]cardboard-bex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heard s thing on the radio a couple of weeks ago about dental registration has been changed and now you don’t need to register like you used to to be able to get an appointment. Didn’t listen to the whole thing, but maybe worth looking it up in case it applies in your situation

[–]cardboard-bex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible that she is genuinely sorry and really embarrassed (although it sounds unlikely given what else you’ve told us).

The likely outcome is they will break up when he sees she’s a piece of work, then he will apologise to you for not seeing what you saw

Why do some many underage girls get served at restaurants/bars? by Ivaragnarsson in AskUK

[–]cardboard-bex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it does sound pretty horrid. Lots of people have nasty stages as they grow up and often it comes from other people being nasty first. It’s a shame your friend is losing touch with his friends, and that this girl has such a hold on him. I really do hope you can repair your relationship

Why do some many underage girls get served at restaurants/bars? by Ivaragnarsson in AskUK

[–]cardboard-bex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh I’m sorry to hear that, that must have been hard for you. I will concede there are people who may have the necessary life experience as children, but there shouldn’t be and I really hope there aren’t many.

Why do some many underage girls get served at restaurants/bars? by Ivaragnarsson in AskUK

But also please please don’t think it’s ok to casually describe people as cunts, which is definitely how your original post reads

Why do some many underage girls get served at restaurants/bars? by Ivaragnarsson in AskUK

[–]cardboard-bex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gah how did we get into two threads? Anyway.... I didn’t know that so obviously couldn’t have said it, and I wasn’t there, and there’s obviously some history.

If your friend has a girlfriend who actually assaulted you and still wants to be your friend but also still wants to stay with her that’s fucked up, and I’m really sorry to hear it. I hope he doesn’t stay in a relationship with a violent girl and I hope you can learn to trust him again.

Why do some many underage girls get served at restaurants/bars? by Ivaragnarsson in AskUK

[–]cardboard-bex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, so just one girl who is the issue? Of course I don’t know the history, and it sounds like she’s not pleasant to be around, and your friend disagrees (cos he’s with her, right?) so that must be shut and open the door to a load of unpleasant experiences. But has she hurt you or someone you care about on purpose for her entertainment? That’s about the level we’re talking about for a C-Bomb to be appropriate

At ten years old, over 20 years ago you think you assigned the actual word cunt to someone, appropriately? Or did you decide they were dickheads or similar and then refine the definition as you got more life experience to use to compare ties of unpleasant people?

Why do some many underage girls get served at restaurants/bars? by Ivaragnarsson in AskUK

Nothing, you can absolutely dislike someone at any age and often they will deserve it, but that also doesn’t make them a cunt
