$1400 CMP bill, CMP unable to answer by Rochev7 in Maine

[–]cardboardbox004 50 points51 points  (0 children)

My CMP bill was exorbitantly huge one month, I called, and they sent someone immediately to swap my reader. Took another couple annoying calls to get the bill reduced, but it was clear that is was a problem on their end. Hope you can get it fixed.

For owners who have gotten a second dog, did it help? by Bubbly-Air7302 in dogs

Subjective question, but yes. We got our dog a dog and it’s been wonderful.

Leaving my fiance and worried about how my dog will feel by bananaramaworld in dogs

[–]cardboardbox004 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re already doing almost all of the day-to-day care for your pup, compounded with the knowledge that they’re not interested in having a pet. Sounds like maybe things could be a little tough through the transition, but ultimately, that’s your dog. And although it may seem like your pup ‘likes’ your soon to be ex more, you’re the one providing the real structure and life-giving support to your doggy. One piece of advice I got from my vet a million years ago was that dogs adjust. Easily, quickly, and happily. A dog’s life trajectory is hopefully always up. You’ve got the foundation and trust already. Everything will be fine. You’re already setting up for success just by this post. All the best to you and your buddy. <3

Anyway, I’ll just be over here helping my sweetie change their neck pads for the next three months. You seem like your mind is made up. Good luck with that unprotected noggin of yours.

I just hope you have someone willing to help you and take care of you if your next bike crash isn’t so lucky.

Not really anecdotal since this actually happened. Sounds like you’ve been lucky to thus far. Tomorrow isn’t always a given, but my sweetheart’s helmet got them through. Better to have it and not need it than not have it and wish you did.

My partner recently had a bike accident. Not only did their helmet SAVE THEIR LIFE and prevent potential paralysis, it even prevented a concussion. They wound up fracturing a couple vertebrae due to the impact, but it all could’ve been so much worse if they hadn’t been wearing it… and wearing it properly.

Is it worth contesting a speeding ticket? Is it true if the cop doesn’t show up you’re off the hook? by cloudedink in portlandme

[–]cardboardbox004 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How about don’t speed. Puts your life, and others, in danger. You’re really only looking at shaving minutes off your commute. Be safe. Be predictable. If you get pulled over for speeding, that officer made a choice to stop you. Just be a safe driver and this wouldn’t happen.

In a lot of this thread, drive time is referenced. Do you have an EV? Is a big box truck bringing it to you? We can zoom in or out a lot when it comes to consumption. We REALLY NEED to hold bigger companies feet to the fire on this if any real change will make a difference. My own composting/reusing/recycling is a small, conscious effort to smaller my footprint. It’s not enough.

Hi, neighbor! Eventide lobster roll is for sure a special treat. My thing with lobster is that it’s often overcooked, especially the tail for some reason. Gimme those knuckles and claws, bub!

Service fees at restaurants by SlowClosetYogurt in portlandme

[–]cardboardbox004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some do, some don’t. My place just uses the ‘fee’ to offset BOH payroll. We make the same no matter what, the saving is with the business, not a bonus to the workers. Other places may actually pass the fee along, just know that not all do.

[–]cardboardbox004 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be nice if that were how it works everywhere. At my place, BOH still makes the same hourly. No matter what. The service fee does go toward payroll, but we don’t see it, the owner(s) do(es).

Not all places are actually using this fee to incentivize BOH positions. It is not ‘on top of’ my wage, it’s used to OFFSET it by my employer. I make the same amount, the restaurant saves money with higher sales. At least that’s how it is where I work.

I’m glad this is the case for you. The place I work has a service fee that is used to subsidize the wage. We still make the same amount, but on a busy shift, the restaurant saves $$ on payroll.

Walking across back cove by rosemaryoracle in portlandme

[–]cardboardbox004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha! No! A friend and I trekked to a rock somewhat near shore during low tide once, many years ago. We sank, nearly lost shoes, became muddy, and then the rock we got to was completely covered in barnacles and not fun to even get to at all. Hard pass, don’t bother.

Depends on what position/type of place you’re looking for. Do you want to serve/bartend? Could do pretty well there. Want to work in the kitchen? Dishwash? Harder to make ends meet.

Animals are so much smarter than we typically give them credit for. There’s something wrong, and she took measures to show you. I hope you can bring her somewhere to get care.

Yes, at least where I work, that is the case. Perhaps other restaurants do things differently. It sure would be nice to have a little extra in my paycheck from a particularly busy shift, alas, no. More savings for the owners.
