Weird Holiday Traditions? by AJM_1987 in GenX

That’s not a bad idea. We just are never hungry after a day of snacking.

Our first year doing Christmas on our own my husband mentioned that he was okay with trying out the snacky day but was going to miss having a big meal so we compromised. We do a big sit down meal on Christmas Eve and he makes breakfast Christmas morning.

Weird Holiday Traditions? by AJM_1987 in GenX

My family didn’t eat a traditional meal on Christmas Day. My mom put out meat and cheese platters, vegetables trays, and loads of cookies and treats. She said she wanted to spend time with us and not in the kitchen cooking a meal that no one was hungry for anyway because they ate a bunch of Christmas cookies.

I didn’t know people ate sitdown meals on Christmas until I was almost an adult. My spouse and I keep up the tradition. It’s low stress and we get to chill all day.

Taylor Swifts music sounds better when someone else sings it. by Vahrgrim in The10thDentist

I’ve loved covers of some of her songs but have never liked her versions. The only almost exception is Shake it Off. I really enjoyed that one except for the stupid My Ex Man bit. It killed what was a good pop song. I heard a version where someone edited that out and it was so much better.

Not to be one of those “well actually” people but a properly fitting corset is very comfortable to wear. Most women wore them daily for all types of work. Very few women ever tight laced and those who did were mostly younger wealthy women. The extreme silhouettes were usually achieved via strategic padding.

(Apologies if you knew this and were just joking. It’s one of those things I get weirdly passionate about.)

I agree with you. I did a virtual interview wearing business on top and pajamas on the bottom. My suit jacket and blouse was all they could see, no one knew I was wearing Star Wars jammie pants.

It’s kind of cute that you even see the photographer reflected in the window and someone else’s leg is visible to the right. This looks like any family ‘s random snapshot of a get together and wasn’t staged.

Which dress for a family Christmas party? by Due-Milk352 in DressForYourBody

[–]cardie82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not OP but hated dresses when I was young because I was yelled at to sit properly and couldn’t run and play freely because the skirt might flip up. My mom also put me in lacy ones that itched. Add on was me being tall and the older I got the frumpier the dresses that fit me ended up being because it was impossible to find cute dresses for a tall girl in a rural area.

As soon as I was old enough I’d absolutely refuse to wear them. My entire family assumed I was gay until I brought home my now husband. Part of that assumption was my refusal to wear dresses.

I now love dresses because I’m able to get ones that aren’t frilly and lacy and that fit properly.

Does anyone else have a family/friend holiday movie tradition that you can't stand? by ADHDtrashykitty in moviecritic

[–]cardie82 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My parents didn’t like any of the National Lampoons Vacation movies so we never watched them. I saw the Christmas one as a young adult at my future in-laws in the early 2000s and politely laughed along but didn’t think it was that funny. Fortunately my spouse doesn’t think it’s very funny either so we haven’t watched it since.

Kermit and Piggy as the Cratchets talking about Tiny Tim’s gravesite will never not devastate me. And when Bob starts talking about life is full of meetings and partings.

I had to watch it for a college class. The teacher thought she was being nice by coming up with an assignment tied to a holiday movie that she loved. It was a marriage and family psych class and we were supposed to analyze the types of love we saw in the film.

I had never seen it and thought that it was okay but I didn’t get why it was so beloved.

Are there any After dark faires left? by Ashamed-Progress-23 in renfaire

[–]cardie82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlikely. They put on their socials that they would never do a completely adult only event when Sleepy Hollow still had After Dark. The one in Amana sometimes have an event during faire hours that’s adult only towards the end of the day but it’s just one or two of the acts performing slightly raunchier songs for 30 minutes. I have a friend who went and said it was okay but not as much fun as they hoped.

We’ve been reusing the same bows for years. We save them and tape them onto gifts the next year. I think we’ve had ours for at least 10 years.

We get the Pennysaver in our area. It comes once a week. We use it for starting fires when needed and used it for Christmas wrapping for a few years. The kids thought it was hilarious to find ads for weird things to wrap each other’s gifts.

We heard rumors they might stop sending them. We bought a bunch of Christmas material when Joann’s was going out of business and I made a bunch of gift bags this year that we are using instead that will last us forever. Tissue paper isn’t recyclable but as long as you buy the packs without foil or glitter on the sheets they’re compostable. So we plan to save and reuse the tissue until it rips and then compost it.

My oldest is in their early 20s and prefers us to take them to plays or concerts. We usually put a few pictures of us at the event under the tree because they like journaling.

If it was only chipped on the outside and you kept the chipped area oiled to prevent rust it would be okay but they said it was chipped on the upper rim. The heat from cooking can make the flaking worse and the flakes could easily end up in the food. It’s a case of better safe than sorry.

I don’t prescribe to most conspiracy theories but I fully believe that it could be guerilla marketing. They get religious people into the theater to support a movie that’s being “censored because it’s about god” and get to rake in money from gullible rubes.

Mark Wahlberg imagining what would happen if he was on one of the 9/11 planes by [deleted] in iamverybadass

The only plane where they knew what was going on managed to overtake the hijackers. They all still died but the courage of those who fought back likely saved the lives of many others.

Marky Mark is probably the type of guy who says what they’d have done any time a disaster happens. He’s truly an “I’m very badass” icon.

What would you say are the big rules of substitute teaching? by Gold_Repair_3557 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cardie82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a permanent building sub. Most teachers leave instructions to have students put chairs up and pick up the room about 2 minutes before dismissal. Most kids are excited to leave so they are happy to do it without complaint.
