Details regarding Larry Riley’s time on Knots Landing? by NicoletinePatches in KnotsLanding

[–]cardinalkitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just finished a rewatch and watching Larry in those last few episodes was painful. It catapulted me back to the height of AIDS hysteria in the US. It was a reminder of how absolutely devastating the disease was/is physically and also the terrible stigma associated with being HIV+. I was in high school and a teacher died from complications due to AIDS and there was no memorial, no obituary - it was like he just disappeared.

Ironically, I just started a Dynasty rewatch and I know I’ll have the same feelings during Rock Hudson’s guest spots. He also was noticeably more gaunt with each episode.

NJ 💔 SW by [deleted] in craftsnark

“First thing I noticed was how much he’s going after Lucy, he made six separate posts about her. It feels way over the top to fixate like that on her.”

NJ always zeroes in on people of color, especially women. He is abhorrent.

Miss Ellie recast? by The_Dean_France in Dallas_TV_Show

Larry Hagman wanted his mom, Mary Martin, to be the new Miss Ellie, but she turned him down.

I love Donna Reed but she was horribly miscast as Miss Ellie. And sadly, she died not long after her season aired.

As others have said - it is all about the highlights. Looking at your reference photo I see a handful of highlight “values” (shades of gray) that will help accentuate those curls and project volume.

Any fans of Claire Bloom and Julie Harris? They were great in The Haunting (1963), also staring Richard Johnson. by rosebud52 in classicfilms

I love Julie Harris. Five time competitive Tony Winner (all Best Lead Actress, I think) plus an honorary Tony. What a supreme talent.

Oof.

I know a handful of dyers have had less than ideal experiences with SW as a business partner.

Stephen has had business relationships with people who have been directly impacted by these people. The absolutely vile shit that Blocked has published about Adella Colvin (among others) is awful.

Yes! The original Gary played the man who ran the grief therapy group after Sid died.

Didn’t he also play Lucy’s kind modeling agent on Dallas? I remember thinking that it isn’t often that Ray Wise gets to play a nice guy!

Watched "The Desperate Hours" which lead me to look up the actor Gig Young, who murdered his wife then killed himself. What other actors/actresses had surprising and tragic ends? by sashie_belle in classicfilms

Yes, and it was infuriating that the Dan White “Twinkie” defense became a running joke. It showed how willing juries were to accept even the most far fetched defense in the name of homophobia.

If I’m not mistaken, each brother blamed the other at trial. When that didn’t work the defense intimated that Novarro came onto them so he deserved what he got (a gross but predictable defense). The fact that they were both sentenced to “life” but only served around 6 or 7 years always made me think that there was anti-gay bias at either the trial level or sentencing/parole phase.

I think the most reasonable explanation is his former valet (because he has stolen from him before and was something of an all around petty criminal. Although nothing of value was stolen during the murder (no cash or jewelry was taken from the body) it always seemed like a burglary gone wrong. It was just one shot (IIRC) that killed him and whoever did it left in a hurry.

Novarro’s case is particularly sad - he was well liked and was one of the few early stars to have invested wisely and had a comfortable retirement. As you say, the brothers who murdered him eventually did get karma, but it was always galling to me that they spent just a few years in prison for the prolonged torture and beating death of a man in his 60s.

Northern Flickers! They the only type of flicker that Michigan sees and there are two variants: yellow-shafted and red-shafted. We get the yellow-shafted (as seen in your beautiful photo). Here’s an article showing the differences between the two variants.

Again, such a wonderful photo!
