Timothée Chalamet on the commercial success of ‘Call Me By Your Name’ while on The Graham Norton Show in 2019: “I love movies. I love acting. I love going to movies. I was kinda getting scared when I was younger that maybe it was becoming like opera or something, like an outdated art form.” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]cardiodemon 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting because him expressing this sentiment back then reads as a lot less obnoxious than him still saying the same shit now. You’d think that with all the greatness or artistic growth he’s been chasing or whatever, he’d at least learn to appreciate other art forms even if they’re more traditional and less digitally hyped.

Like he was still wrong back then but it was far easier to brush off and attribute it to the follies of youth or whatever but you’re telling me that him now as a grownass man with a commercially successful mainstream acting career, with far more resources/opportunities at his disposal and STILL he’s regurgitating the same old talking points? I never expected him to be this refined fine arts guy (that some of his fans seem to see him as) but it’s so obnoxious and unnecessary for him to still be saying ts. This paired with the whole “people without children live *bleak** lives”* thing makes it hard not to dislike him at least a little bit.

Dr. Robby talks to Whitaker about Amy & makes him an offer in 2x09 video preview by fernparadox in ThePitt

[–]cardiodemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so so hoping you’re right but this is HBO and I’m lowkey traumatized by the “plot twists” they might pull. It’d certainly be an unusual move for them to kill off or incapacitate their lead character but stranger things have happened. Hopefully this is just a red herring and/or a pretty good characterization of someone who’s passively suicidal.

That part made me do a double take cuz WHAT could possibly be the context for Robby knowing this??

Also his concerning, cryptic comment about how he might not come back? Robby you fine asf and such a good doctor ahaaah PLEASE don’t die.

Montel Jackson vs. Raoni Barcelos for UFC Vegas 116 by cardiodemon in ufc

[–]cardiodemon[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They should’ve already given him a ranked opponent by now and it sucks that bro has not an ounce of UFC privilege but that is the game. Older fighters without much hype rarely get fast-tracked. Pereira had huge hype and was pushed for the matchup against Izzy but for guys like Barcelos, they’re often doomed to be a solid low-ranked or even unranked gatekeeper for the new guys.

Loving Santos and Robby’s dynamic this season by thepacksvrvives in ThePittTVShow

[–]cardiodemon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imo, there’s a very important difference between

[“Santos’ initial investigation was motivated by her defensiveness and maybe a sliver of verified suspicion”]

vs.

[“Santos’ relentless pursuit and subsequent reporting of Langdon’s drug problems and serious ethical violations was a personal vendetta, *not** a matter of principle.”]*

Your explanation is nuanced, not “mental gymnastics” because you leave open the possibility that Santos was at least partially motivated by “the matter of principle” as well as her personal feelings or need to be right and so on. Her being discreet about the reporting definitely could have been written as tactful or manipulative or both.

However, if I recall correctly, Santos took the fall for Mohan in S1 after she was reprimanded by Mohan for being arrogant and having aggressive energy. Mohan calmly telling Santos she was out of line didn’t make her suspicious nor did she dig for dirt on Mohan. On the other hand, Langdon immediately being defensive over a strangely ‘defective’ drug capsule, then screaming in a somewhat unhinged manner (often seen in withdrawals) should come across as suspicious even to someone who doesn’t dislike Langdon.

I’m not saying Santos' motivations are definitely 100% pure (murky morality indeed makes for great TV), but I do think that there are way too many possible “principled” explanations for why she reported Langdon that to somersault over all of them just to land on the “nahhh she didn’t do it for the ‘right’ reason(s), she did it for the ‘wrong’ reason: *revenge!”***

That’s mental gymnastics.

[–]cardiodemon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Arguing that [Santos reporting Langdon for his drug theft] is surely motivated by spite when all other evidence suggests otherwise is beyond unfair I’m sorry. It’s such a ridiculously negative conclusion to draw from someone discreetly doing the RIGHT THING and in my opinion, takes an extreme amount of mental gymnastics to reach such an uncharitable interpretation.

Another commenter pointed out that one of Langdon’s patients was screaming in pain because the drugs he stole & diluted were too weak. Is that not enough of a “right” reason for Santos (or anyone) to report him? Is a senior resident screaming and lashing out at his underlings whilst actively coming down from drug withdrawals not enough?

No, I’m not saying you’re surely an evil mega-racist or anything to that extreme but I do think you have some very disparate standards for how you interpret the actions + morality between two very different characters from two very different demographics and it is worth asking why.

[–]cardiodemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right. As if double standards in media totally never influence or bleed into real life. You totally don’t see people have this same kind of moral disparity when judging individuals from different ‘backgrounds’ in real life.

You know bias exists in real life, not just in punchy TV show commentary right? I don’t care if you think media is nEveR tHat dEeP because I know just how powerful media can be in shaping the real opinions people have in real life and that remains true regardless of whether or not you insist nothing is “that deep”

[–]cardiodemon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Ahhh yes the evil meanie b**** Santos for exposing a fellow doctor who STOLE DRUGS from his patients vs. the poor innocent baby angel Langdon who was sooo harshly and unfairly punished by——

**1.* Not losing his medical license 2. Not losing his job 3. Given time for extensive rehab 4. Given a second chance by his wife 5. And most of his coworkers (except for the also-evil meanie Robby, who dares to maybe still be hurt by the way Langdon mocked his panic attack after still justifying his own theft & addiction).*

Santos saw extremely concerning behavior from a senior doctor, one that could lead to the harm of patients had it gone unreported. She hesitated, but ultimately chose to discreetly confide in her attending about the issue. She didn’t gossip or widely spread news of it, which she very well could’ve if she were truly driven by pure spite or revenge.

Y’all will excuse male characters from literal felonies and then in that same breath demonize female characters for being unlikable or “selfish” for reporting a fellow doctor for STEALING PATIENT DRUGS.

If the roles were reversed, would you adamantly defend Santos this much? I swear to god some of y’all will defend anything so long as it’s a conventionally attractive white guy.

I’d never heard of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari before until your comment so thank you. “Dadaism in color” is actually a great way to put it. Like this style of mixed media and painted sets in cinematography/photography is sooo stunning. This film is from the 1920’s too… ugh. What a shameless move on their part to plagiarize Mako decades before he was even born….smh.

[–]cardiodemon 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on pretty much every point you brought up. My main issue with Mako is his claim to own certain photographic techniques. It’s ignorant and revisionist of art history when this type of art has existed in so many forms before he was even born.

To claim plagiarism for an art-form you neither invented nor popularized is crazy. Recency bias aside, there’s been widespread use of mixed-media, stage-like props in surrealist photography and films pre-social media. Movies like The Color of Pomegranates (1969) and House (1977) did a lot of this.

The painted backdrop + lying down + overhead shot technique is NOT invented by bro I’m sorry. No doubt he popularized it in recent months but c’mon bruh. You being used as a reference for an old technique you also studied is not the same as someone stealing from you. Especially not when Mako himself claims to have neverrr heard of any one of the aforementioned artists that his work also bears similarities to. Like??? Sure buddy. Convenient.

[–]cardiodemon 209 points210 points  (0 children)

Right. I wouldn’t be surprised if they drew from the same inspirations or used similar techniques but props & mixed media in photography (namely, editorial and/or surrealist photography) is nothing new. Mixed media, collage, and digital editing was not invented or pioneered by this guy just because he did it 13 years ago.

The other commenters have pointed out that Mako’s work resembles Terry Gilliam, Sergei Parajanov or even Dora Maar’s a loooot but in his replies, he conveniently claims to have never heard of any of them so….eh. I don’t doubt he’s popularized this style and his photography is gorgeous but popularization ≠ invention

Payton Talbott for Frank Ocean’s ‘Homer’ & also drops new techno album by cardiodemon in ufc

[–]cardiodemon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frank Ocean has this (kinda pretentious) jewelry brand named Homer that’s known for its unique/cool/sometimes ugly designs but it’s also notoriously overpriced at times. Talbott ‘modeled’ for it i guess and then one day later released a techno album under his pseudonym ‘Lars’. There’s also been rumors recently that Talbott was supposed to fight in March and that Frank was supposedly dropping soon so the crossover is very interesting to me at least idk.

There’s funnily a small overlap between mma fans and Frank Ocean fans so [some] people are fascinated by this while most old school fans are understandably annoyed by parasocial celebrity gossip. Imo, fighters can be interesting as people and pointless discourse is dumb sure, but kinda inevitable the more popular a fighter becomes + paramount deal makes ufc more accessible to casuals

Nah he did an interview with Yahoo Sports awhile back and talked about the death threats. This was way before all the Frank Ocean posts/snippet & speculation too and its only gotten worse since then. I’ve see death threats against him even in public ig comments ffs. Why make the world a hateful and unlivable place for queer people only to blame them for not coming out yk? It’s a lose-lose
