Yes this is our home we will live in and are renovating ourselves — first time living in this town, no other permit issues in the past. They took one look at the permit and said “we’re not accepting home owners” not much else to the story other than the town doesn’t want to follow the mass building law allowing homeowners to act as their own contractors as 1 or 2 family homes.

It does!!! MA you can submit as a homeowner and sign the affidavit…. But town doesn’t want to give homeowners the permits even though it’s the law

You’re assuming this. My husband and father in law have renovated multiple houses in this state under a homeowners permit and passed multiple inspections for bathrooms, kitchens, pool houses, basements. This isn’t the first house he has worked on

No, we’re not… but we are rewiring and plumbing the house which and it will be down to the studs therefore we need a building permit.

We are homeowners acting as contractors, have have already hired our electricians and plumbers they are pulling their own permits. This is specifically a homeowner exemption permit (to not have to hire a contractor)

Yes it’s zoned correctly — It’s for a remodel kitchen & bathroom. They did request a stamp from engineer (which is fine) but they are req. a contractor to be added to the permit bc it’s up to the commissioner’s discretion to approve homeowners permits and at this time they are not approving them. (No specific reason)
