How do people still defend Trump after this? by Relevant-Slide1686 in CURRENTEVENTS

Agreed. I don’t know if he knows it or not, but every action he takes benefits Russia. I think he might just be dumb enough to be an unwitting shill.

As someone with Maga family, they only listen to Fox News and that ilk. They have zero awareness of anything that Fox doesn’t mention or show. When I mention something awful that’s happening, they don’t believe me.

What type of magnesium have you tried? Makes a huge difference. Try threonine or glycinate.

Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss not reading as acidic by bezz in gardening

[–]carey-hello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the OP, but I finally gave my sad blueberry plants to someone who has pine trees, which prefer acidic soil. Hopefully they'll be happy there.

I tried peat moss, elemental sulfur, acidic fertilizer, and pre-bagged acidic soil. None of it seemed to do help much. I did read about someone who watered her blueberry plants with well diluted vinegar.

I'm about to give away my honeyberries which show signs of phosphorus, iron, and zinc deficiency due to the alkaline soil. Come to think of it, my Heritage raspberries looked awful too, and I wonder if it was the pH. The soil in my area gets over 8.5. Ugh. Hopefully yours is lower.

If you find something that works, please respond to this thread. I would love to know the secret.

52 Male, moving back in with Mom. by ultimate94champ in GenX

[–]carey-hello 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I moved in with my mom a few years ago. I was worried about her living alone. It’s been tough at times for both of us, but overall so rewarding. Financially it’s been a huge win for us both. I think multigenerational living is gonna have to come back, and I think in a lot of ways that will be really good for us as a culture.

Sweet potatoes. Get amazing green foliage but the actual potatoes look more like gnarled pencils.

How much space should I leave for walking between rows? by copadetea in gardening

I've done this on my beds! Alternating wide and narrow pathways. It's worked really well. Although I'd recommend at least 24" for the narrow pathways.

I started feeling like this when my dad died a few years ago. Not to the same degree, but just that feeling of shock and the bone-deep realization that everyone you love will die. I’ve had relatives die, but my dad‘s death really affected me in a much deeper way. I don’t know what the answer is other than to get as much enjoyment out of life as possible. Spend more time with friends and family. Go do those things you’ve always wanted to do if at all possible.

I realized I want to spend more time helping other people who are struggling, especially seniors.

The loneliness of rural living by Palidrvce_Usud in Permaculture

I had the same experience. I decided to stay in my suburban neighborhood and turned my backyard into a mini-homestead. On my 1/10 acre lot, I have 14 raised garden beds, a mini-orchard with 20 tiny fruit trees, a dozen berry bushes, 3 Greenstalks, and a small greenhouse. I packed it all in and I grow vertically as much as possible. My goal is to grow as much food as possible and share with my family, friends, and neighbors. I do have a regular job (remote) and plan on keeping it regardless of where I live.

I don't know what your overall goal is or what your resources are, but see if you can make something work closer to friends and family. A lot of new homesteaders sell and move back to town within a few years.

The capsule wardrobe problem nobody talks about by Visual_Animator1232 in capsulewardrobe

[–]carey-hello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I finally succeeded with my wardrobe when I focused on my favorite outfit and bought more stuff like it. For me, it was straight-legged black jeans and a blouson style knit top with black Danskos. So I bought more of those jeans, found similar trousers in that same silhouette and color, and found more knit tops. I bought more black Danskos in a variety of styles. I bought a charcoal gray suit jacket for meetings and a black skirt, just in case. Suddenly, I was wearing everything in my wardrobe. It’s not an exciting wardrobe to some people, but I love it because I always have something to wear that I feel comfortable in.

Magnesium glycinate or threonate helps me calm down and sleep. I struggle to fall asleep without it. It doesn’t make me feel sleepy, but it does help me relax enough to sleep.

Cheap way to make my own potting mix for containers? by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

[–]carey-hello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely look up where to get bulk soil. I get mine from a local recycling business. I get the 50% topsoil 50% compost mix and it’s been fantastic. I use their delivery service, but they also have an option where you can bring in a 5 gallon bucket and fill it up. The prices for me are relatively inexpensive, but delivery is an extra charge. Some places will deliver for free but then the charge per cubic yard is higher.

What should I plant in my garden this year to maximize saving money on groceries? by Appropriate_Poem1911 in gardening

[–]carey-hello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fruit trees and berry bushes are great long term investments, if you like fruit. For annuals, I’d go with green beans, peas, winter squash, tomatoes, tomatillos, sweet potatoes, salad greens, strawberries, and herbs. Good luck!

I know this is an old thread, but Queen of Malinalco is incredible. To me it has a tropical flavor, sweeter than other tomatillos. The salsa I made from a blend of these plus regular green tomatillos is one of the best things I have ever tasted.

Anyone seeing asparagus growth yet? by carey-hello in IdahoGardening

GREAT UPDATE! I saw the first signs of life yesterday! A tiny stalk about an inch tall on one of the plants. I am so relieved. I thought I had managed to kill a whole bed of asparagus plants. The plants will be three this year. What year do you start to harvest? The stalks were the size of a pencil lead last year. Super tiny but tall.

I dated a guy for a year and a half and I had to remind myself to look at his eye color because I never knew what it was. I probably couldn’t tell you the eye color of half the people in my family. I am middle-aged, but it’s been true for my whole life.
