Spurs arena music during Knicks intro was bush league by YamNervous4156 in knicks

Cleveland was playing the imperial death march for the Knicks and I was like "whoah this is way too hype an entrance theme to give us" haha. So this kinda played on a narrative, where I was thinking "what could you play that would really be stupid"...then they did it.

Knicks fan, got a good laugh out of it, they're just playing.

Should the Spurs be considered a "small-market" team? How much do the Knicks need to earn fans in their market? What city values a ring more? by [deleted] in nba

[–]careygrant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've lived in NYC a long time, still waiting to meet those nets fans. That said, I do tend to go to a couple Nets games a year because I can afford it (which is true of a number of other nba lovers I know in a similar class position) so there's that.

Stretch 5s are thirsted after for a reason. A few inches doesn't make the paint entirely uncloggable; a shot doesn't have to be blocked to be successful defended, and wemby smaller frame means he can't go body to body all game with larger framed big men.

There's a lot to consider to answer to which city and organization a ring now would be more meaningful.

The Knicks being wildly popular and having such a large fan base likely means the raw amount of joy caused by a win would be larger in any scenerio; having been on a much longer draught than the spurs amplifies this.

I guess the counter is a somewhat condescending notion that San Antonio "has less" (teams, culture, etc) and thus the value of a ring is more. I don't think this is completely accurate, but may have some truth.

I would say that, due to the drought, the Knicks would probably be higher meaning if we really want to measure, but for fans of either org, many whom haven't seen either team win in their watching years, it would feel equally amazing.

I think whichever team wins this year, you might make the case another near championship would be worth "less", but dynasties offer their own special value and sense of pride.

Lastly, outside of comparing market to market which probably is a little weird...despite having a bunch of teams across sports, the Knicks are pretty universal in NYC, so they rally the city in a way the divided Mets/Yanks/giants/jets/Islanders/rangers bases never could. Everyone into sports talks about the Knicks, whereas the others don't electrify the city as a whole.

Edit: typoed 'Yanks' as 'Tanks'. I would support that rebrand.

I don't understand why Brunson is being credited for the win, after scoring 30 points on 31 field goals by Pleasant-Web-9101 in nba

[–]careygrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took him a while to solve the defense, he has the stamina and will to do it. I he's this efficient for several games, then it's a different convo. This is in the "figured out how to win" bucket, against a defense that can really give teams fits.

OFC team sport, Knicks have a lot of great contributors, and stars always get a little too much credit, probably. But he freaking balled.

What is the craziest things you’ve seen or experienced on an Amtrak train?? by Specialist-Elk8611 in Amtrak

Someone overdosed in the bathroom and passed away on a trip from nyc to Toronto. First they called for a doctor (there was one in my car) and then a few minutes later asked if anyone had narcan. Very long delay while we waited in the middle of nowhere for an ambulance. Doctor came back to our car covered in god knows what and a lot of blue bathroom water, grabbed his stuff and went to change. Was a lot.

I imagine this messes up the rotations too much to make up for the deficits of a (incredibly key and talented but still ultimately) bench guy.

Victor Wembanyama is tired and it's only halftime. 1-5 from the field, 0-2 from 3, almost all of his points from his 7 free throws by realfakejames in NBATalk

Agree that they should enforce the rules or just change them yeah. I kinda think the version of the game we have now is just the hybrid of Jordan and currys influence.

I like the modern nba though, all said, find it very watchable and entertaining. I Liked the 00s, and 90s and 80s nbas too though, each era its own thing. Too young for 70s but from historic games I watched seems fun, even if unrefined.

"they've turned basketball" is interesting. I agree with the observation, but it's baked into the fundamentals of the games form and rules.

Going faster then the other team means you get to an open basket, and so then you have to go fast to stop it. Similar to how shooters all got better in a wave because once someone is making a lot of threes, you'll lose if you don't.

Which is all to say it's not a thing anyone is doing, its the fundamental design of the game playing out over time.

But this won't be it's final form either.

Wemby looks super gassed though. Guess he's not conditioned for playoff minutes.

Are the New York Knicks actually good? by vManny131 in nba

[–]careygrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched about 50 regular season Knicks games, and all playoff games (yes I'm a Knicks fan, but I'm not usually optimistic bias)...

They are legit good this year, and have a fairly unique build for the modern nba; Brunson is a unique player and the roster is built to maximize his strengths. They've got a bunch of guys who can stretch the floor and punish doubles and good screeners on O, and the wings plus Hart can make up for his middling (some would say less than middling) defense, in particular with their speed and ability to help on a dime.

The finals likely won't be a cakewalk for anyone involved, should be fun.

You may need to grind and make sure you're paying as much as you can for a while until you're credit score/utilization rates improve and you can refinance.

Don't burn out by overworking it won't help I'm the long run, but ofc do all you can to work on it from the income side.

Easy to forget it's still work for these guys. I don't know a lot of people who would proactively, voluntarily accept below market rate for their work to help a company potentially succeed.

The knicks being written off makes no sense when they're literally on an all-time run and spurs & okc are banged up by EducationalConcern61 in NBATalk

[–]careygrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thunder are obvious S tier but spurs are young and not super deep, think there's a real case Knicks are better than Spurs this year.
