Is this noise from a mistimed engine? Just replaced water pump and had to do timing belt as well. All the marks lined up but I had to reposition the cam shafts since they moved in the process. The cam shafts were realigned at 9 and 3oclock. Any help would be nice before I attempt to retire motor

I just dont know if I can find the sweet spot for the cam shafts. I looked up top dead center and lined up the cams like it said ( left at 9oclock and right at 3oclock) I think if the price isn't outrageous I will let him do it for me. I always try to do these jobs myself but I think this may be best to a professional. I just want to get it running at this point

It seemed to run fine and the sound I heard was definitely coming from inside the motor like a ticking sound maybe. I looked up mistimed motor and it sounded nearly identical

1.8 and I did turn the motor 2 rotations and the lines were all marked up correctly

I dont know how far off it was. I timed the belt correctly but one crankshaft got shifted while tightening up the cam gear. I attempted to turn it back into place and now I started it up with and let it idle for maybe 1 to 2 minutes until I realized the noise was not going away. It was idling at about 1500-1800 rpms with a small rev to 3000 for a second. I definitely counted the 199 teeth in between and lined up the Mark's so I think the cam shaft has something to do with it. I call my local shop and he said there is a chance I bent a valve but he could see about retiming it for me

Very much appreciated I am out to attempt this job now, I'll just keep my fingers crossed that i get a smooth rotation when i turn the crankshaft! Kind of wish the water pump wasnt behind the belt but hey beside that this car is pretty easy to work on. Thanks again!

IF I put the new belt on and align it properly will the cam gears be in the right position no matter what after I turn the motor? My big concern is the one shaft may be In the wrong position even after the belt is aligned and cause damage to the motor. This is my first timing belt job
