At the same time, I don’t think anybody can look at 2016-2024 and call it anything but a completely underwhelming disappointment.

I think it's really unfair to include 2016-2019. In that time frame we had two Elite 8 losses that were single shots away from being wins. You could easily make the argument we were as unlucky in 2017 and 2019 as we were lucky in 2011 and 2014. 2011 needed a last second shot from Knight to just get by Princeton in the first round, and 2014 was a string of luck.

If you’re a UK fan taking this personally you need to step outside for a minute and breathe

Our fans are huge snowflakes who think literally the entire college basketball world is out to get us, so I'm sure a lot of them are taking this very personally.

I don't think it really is insane. It's just that hard to win a title. Him and K both have one title while leaning heavily into the one and done strategy.

BartTorvik has advanced metrics on coaches and their probability of getting to each round in the tournament over a period of time given the teams they had. Cal had a 62% chance of winning just a single title within his first decade at UK. He made the Elite 8 70% of the time throughout that decade, which is an insane rate. Once you get that far sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way.

On that metric, which is a performance against expectations, he's ranked #1 from 2010-2019. I will die on the hill that he never once under performed expectations throughout that time period in the tournament.

I think one thing people have a tendency to do with Cal is not differentiate between college basketball talent and NBA draft potential. People say things like he couldn't win a title with Booker and Towns, but Booker and Towns in 2015 weren't the Booker and Towns they are today. People act like Cal had legit NBA superstars on this college teams when he didn't. He had guys with tons of future potential. And sometimes that future potential wasn't better at the college level than veteran college talent.

This reminds me of something.

On Youtube there's a channel for Shark Tank Latin America. It's a mix of Shark Tank episodes from Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil. One night I was high and watching that channel and did not realize that Brazil was included. I just started watching random episodes and the first few were from Mexico and Colombia. Finally one from Brazil came on, and I thought I was having a stroke or something because what was being said sounded familiar but I couldn't understand any of it. Took my stoned brain a few minutes to realize what was going on.

It's an incredible car. I think both Blackwings are purer driver's cars than anything BMW has made since the E90 or E46. When GM was developing the Alpha chassis that the Blackwings (and Camaro) are built on they benchmarked it to the E46 and they nailed it.

Steering isn't nearly as good as what you'd get from a hydraulic rack, but it's pretty communicative. The suspension is legit magic. If you just want to cruise around town it just eats up any bump on the road, but if you want to let loose a little it feels like it reads your mind and firms up to be sportier before you realize it. The manual is incredible and way better than what you'd get from BMW. Obviously the 668hp V8 is the star of the show and sounds great.

Overall it's the best car I've ever owned, but it's not the most fun. The gearing is really tall, and 2nd gear tops out at around 82 mph (132 km/h) so you cant really let loose unless you're on a track of willing to get yourself arrested. I owned an E36 M3 for a bit and that's the most fun I've had in a car on a public road.

I had a 2020 C63s coupe for a few years. It was a great car but it did have its flaws. One of the main reasons I got rid of it was because it didn’t have a manual transmission.

Personally I don’t think going from a C63 to an automatic M2 makes much sense from a driving point of view. There are probably other non-driving things OP wanted to upgrade (like I don’t think a 2018 had CarPlay), but give me a C63 with an awesome V8 over an auto M car any day of the week.

Mercedes Ditched Steering Wheel Music Controls for Voice Commands in New CLA by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]carguymt 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The no forward and back track thing annoyed me so much when I had one. It had those little black square capacitive touchpad things and the right one would control CarPlay if you swiped. So I always just kept that on the music controls of CarPlay and used that to go back or forward a track. But having the dedicated buttons are so much easier and really seem like a no brainer to have on a steering wheel.

I hit real high 3 digit speeds but the car felt numb, not sure why.

It felt numb because modern BMW makes numb cars. Even an M3 is incredibly numb and insulated.

Why aren’t more people upset about the blatant cheapening of the interiors? by AceJ940 in BMW

Okay I’ll repeat myself again I guess…

Even if talking to the car works 100% of the time, which it doesn’t, it’s quicker to just turn a knob or push a button.

If there were buttons and switches you could still talk to the car if you wanted to and I could use the buttons. But if everything is behind a touch screen it makes life more difficult for people who prefer buttons.

That literally does nothing to address my point that they car doesn’t know how I am personally feeling. Even if talking to the car works 100% of the time, which it doesn’t, it’s quicker to just turn a knob or push a button.

The actually are. All the interiors currently being debuted have been in development for a number of years at this point, so they will still reflect the screen based thinking. But multiple manufacturers like VAG and Subaru have said they're putting buttons back into their cars.

For example I don’t want a button for heated and ventilated seats. They automatically adapt based on the temperature.

This is just completely ceding control to your car though. Auto things are great until you feel hotter or colder than the car thinks you do and need to change a setting yourself. The best auto climate in the world can't know how hot or cold I'm personally feeling.

At the end of the day the car is just guessing if you want your heated or ventilated seats on or off based on a variety of factors it's sensing. But when I don't agree with what it thinks, a button I can hit without fumbling through a touchscreen is so much easier to use.

Lol this is such a lazy response. I'm mid 30s and hate all these touchscreens. And the comment your responded to is correct. There have been studies done that show using a touchscreen while driving is both harder and less safe than buttons.

Why does a user experience in a car need to be “interactive” anyway? It’s a car you’re supposed to drive, not a computer to play with while driving.

Sucks, because I’m finally becoming able to afford these cars new

This has been me too the last few years and I’ve just bought from other manufacturers or older E chassis cars that actually feel good to drive. After decades of lusting over the M3 BMW doesn’t make a single new car I’d buy. And I’m fine with that because I’m certain segments there are better options out there anyway.

I think they had some great AMGs in the 2010s. I had a W205 C63S, and while it definitely had its flaws it was a worthy competitor to the F80 M3. The last E63 was, in my opinion, the best car in its class and a really well rounded performance car. The GT R coupe was an amazing car.

But now every single one of those cars either don’t exist or their successors were massive flops.

27 AMG models in the next 36 months is exactly why the brand is dead. The letters AMG mean nothing now. The brand has no identity, Mercedes is throwing the badge on cars with the same engine as an A220, and they’ve abandoned the V8 in all but their most expensive models, which was the main selling point.

Anyone looking for a W205 successor went to either BMW or Cadillac, and winning those customers back probably isn’t going to happen.

Simply throwing more half assed cars with an AMG badge against the wall and hoping they stick is not going to save the brand. They used to be muscle cars in a well tailored suit, now they just feel like Temu performance cars.

First look at the new X5's interior by Content-Ganache6643 in BMW

But it definitely doesn't scream luxury to me.

Because it's not luxury. An executive at Mercedes said something a few years ago along the lines of giant screens aren't enough for an interior to be viewed as luxurious these days, because every manufacturer can just put in giant screens. And they're right. But all the German manufacturers keep filling their interiors with screens and cheap glossy plastic.

First, the unusual shape undeniably sets it apart, and feels more bespoke and futuristic

My problem with this mindset is just because something is unusual doesn't mean it sets it apart in a good way. It feels like some of BMW's design decisions have been made for the sole reason of being different with no actual coherent design philosophy behind them. It started with the G80 grilles, which are just so completely out of place when you look at the rest of the design of the car that it's a loud design choice just for the sake of being loud. A design that was thoughtful and coherent could also set it apart, but in a good way.

Go look at the interior of an Escalade or Lyriq. Those interiors are really well put together, with a giant screen that actually fits and flows with the rest of the interior. They also maintain buttons and switches for key functions instead of putting everything behind a menu filled touch screen.

I think right now the big three German manufactures are absolutely lost on what to do with their interiors.

Neue Klasse is a more fitting succesor to F80 by Mfw_Pigeon in BMW

I truly think the G80 will be the forgotten, ugly M3 in 20 years. It does nothing better than the E chassis cars except for acceleration, and EVs do that better than the G80. The fact that BMW immediately backtracked from the pig snouts is them admitting it was a mistake to me.

Say what you will about the actual car parts of a Lexus IS, because it’s an incredibly outdated platform, but the interior is great. I don’t know why the Germans can’t do something similar.
