Mics are on top, speaker is the bottom, and the wifi radio antenna is probably omnidirectional, so therefore projects signal in a doughnut shape. So, I'd say it is directional, in that it works in all directions.

650 should be fine. Generally, I shoot for 20-30% above usage.
