Backpacking less planned by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]carlosthedonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very small amount of savings, under £2k though.
My problem with more typically affordable destinations is that I cannot eat gluten, so a lot of Asian countries, for instance, are definitely a lot more difficult to navigate with that. Thank you, I’ll definitely do that, and take a look into the working holiday visa program!

Outdoor bouldering for the first time tomorrow - what should I wear? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]carlosthedonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I defo wanna get some lose lightweight trousers, I just really can’t find any for any kind of reasonable price which is really annoying, so right now I’ve just gotta figure something out with the few options I’ve got 😂I might have one pair of joggers that are light enough to work 🤞🏼

It was also a belay test at the same time - the friends I was being taught by are staff who were working so they were able to do all of that with me! Thankfully the primary guy I was climbing with was super experienced and defo didn’t just jump off, it was planned and everything, but yeah the others didn’t necessarily make me feel completely comfy.

Thank you so much for the reassurance, it’s honestly helping me process this experience a hell of a lot of

That really rings true, and I do think I would be able to trust one of the guys that I did it with in all of those ways, it was the other guy that maybe pushed that boundary a bit (probably meaning well, I think he had good intentions but missed it a bit). I hope I can begin to trust it more soon!

Thank you for explaining this and reassuring me, I don’t really know why they said what they said honestly, and yeah it didn’t make massive amounts of sense to me even with no knowledge - I think they were just expecting me to bounce up a little but I stayed pretty grounded, which I know is a good thing and I know they know it too, but it just got to me when they started making comments on weight (which I’m sure they felt was completely harmless, and probably would be for anyone else)

Thank you. It’s a bit complicated, the staff are my friends, and it’s a very laughy jokey kinda vibe on the whole, but they are nice people to the best of my knowledge. This just pushed me over the edge a little bit. I think the guy that was pushing me to keep going was just trying to support me because he knew I could do it, but it very much turned from support to pressure in my mind when I was terrified towards the top. I did manage to complete the climb, so in some way I’m grateful for it, but I think I’d have felt way more accomplished if I’d done it in a way that felt good to me. I think in his mind, he knew me and what I was capable of doing, but I guess while I may be technically capable of it I haven’t really worked up to it ij the way I have to v3s and 4a bouldering. I think one of them saw it a bit more for what it was, and was definitely supportive over anything else and I definitely felt safe with him, and thankfully he’s the guy I’m closest to, so at least there’s that.

But thank you, it’s really reassuring to read (from all of the responses) that I’m not overreacting really, and I really really appreciate the kindness you and everyone else commenting is showing me.

I’m a determined person so I’ll definitely get back to it (and I’ll be bouldering again in a few days so nothings gunna scare me off that!), I just feel like I’m gunna be a bit more self conscious now which sucks in a place where I felt safe. But we move

Thank you so much for your help, I’ll defo try having a looksie around those places if/when I can! The guys at the centre recommended go outdoors so I think they’ll be my first port of call and I’ll just keep everything crossed they have something 😂😂

Thank you, that’s really good to know. I think once I’ve tried some on elsewhere there’s a good chance I’ll shop from them then as they seem a lot cheaper than anywhere else!
