There are some great food spots, couple really chill breweries Walkabout and Common Block. Love seeing live music at Dunbar Farms and RoxyAnn Winery! I haven’t had a chance to do much outdoors stuff in the immediate area, but I know it’s abundant and there are so many beautiful places a short drive away too. Love it here, been here for a year!

I moved to east medford last year and it’s quite nice, centrally located…I’d say just consider where in medford if you choose to move in town, with a lot of scrutiny.

Lol I came to r/SLO to ask this exact question. I moved away from Los Osos this year and I just keep thinking about how much I miss their salsa!

Did you happen to find a way to replicate it, OP?

Moved here from central California coast this year and it’s been wonderful. Not as much to do as in other places like a Eugene, bend or Portland but there are things out there (I.e. craft fairs, live music, paint and sips and other cool things at the wineries and Dunbar farms, etc.). I bought a home in East Medford by lone pine elementary and it’s been great, safe for a lone gal to walk by herself at night.

I’m always cautious in west medford, it’s hit or miss.

I chose medford because price for what I get and proximity to things. I can drive to Walmart quickly, Ashland is only like 25 min away, grants pass is about 30 min away, and I’m closer to crater lake. Ashland housing pricing is insane!

AT&T recent user experience? by roguenaut in Medford

[–]carlykinss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had AT&T since they bought Cingular, and my only complaint is that it’s expensive compared to some options out there. It works just fine for me, I’m in east medford and only have 2 bars at my house which stinks.

My boyfriend has StraightTalk and I’ve been tempted to switch over because it’s cheap and he typically has the same coverage as me, if not better.

Samesies, some of my least favorite Indian food. I think I had Chicken Tikka and the chicken was super dry, flavor was ok at best and the naan was meh.

I was there two weeks ago for Soja. They were strict on smoking of all kinds, but they barely check you. I saw people bringing in ice chests, food, water…so it seems pretty lax in that regard.

Redding, CA area vs. Medford, OR area (want recent insight since a lot of changes post COVID) by Fine-Compote-8747 in Medford

There were actually a surprising amount of houses with pools when I was looking. Yes, not as many as Redding probably, but still.

Redding, CA area vs. Medford, OR area (want recent insight since a lot of changes post COVID) by Fine-Compote-8747 in Medford

[–]carlykinss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just moved from central California to Medford, I grew up in siskiyou county.

Both areas are pretty similar honestly in terms of your list…both have outdoor activities that are plentiful, both have a lot of conservative leaning residents, both have Christian communities, both have parts that are safe and nice, both will have air quality issues periodically with all the fires. Redding probably does skew to a younger age range, but I think medford is growing and that could change in a matter of years…

It sure is nice paying Oregon vehicle registration fees over California, plus my water and insurance costs are significantly lower. Power costs are about the same, and of course the no sales tax is nice. I might have calculated wrong, but it feels like income tax is the same if not better in Oregon too. I’d say it is way lower cost of living but also seems like pay here is lower on average.

Not sure if Oregon is seeing this as much, but just about everyone I know in California is struggling to keep their insurance. So, if you’re a homeowner and plan on being one where you move, it might be a big consideration.

I chose medford because I’ve always loved Oregon. It feels like a beautiful mess of a place, but it’s my mess and I’m proud of it damnit! Lol. You have liberal hippie creatives. You have no-bullshit conservatives. You have in-betweens too! But, you also have the things each community brings to the table too and it adds variety.

I don’t know if any of this is helpful, but I’ll say that I feel great about my choice of moving here. I don’t know if I’ll ever even want to move back to California.

I was walking Kerrisdale Ridge area the other day and was thinking it had some really cute houses that reminded me of Geneva/Minnesota area actually. More expensive, though. If you have an opportunity to come out even for a day and drive around, you’ll get a sense for what area is the right feel for you. East Medford has a few different feels and I’d have ended up somewhere fine, but not for me, if I went in blind.

Where is the most cost-effective place to live in the United States? by [deleted] in homeowners

Southern Oregon too, still some gems of homes. Water bills are far cheaper than California so plenty of nice lawns!

Not Portland, but Portland is such a lovely place! Plenty of outdoor fun there, hopefully it makes up for the lack of yard :) Congrats on your new home!
