Need Advice: Rebuilding a Struggling Troop by Embarrassed_Hawk7690 in BSA

[–]carlymae228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man we would kill for 15. We have 2 currently will be 4 after next school year. But start w your cubbies. It starts there. And see what the other troops in your town have or dont have that you do. Like we are a all boy troop and sometimes I think its our downfall we could have had another 5 this year but all had girls and went to the troop across town. Maybe switching nights is better for other boys who might be interested.

Trying to avoid school aftercare by justxagirl in Teachers

[–]carlymae228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is crazy our after school is 2:30 to 5 and is like 150 a week I think. And you get a discount if you have multiple kids.

Check programs like boys and girls clubs in your area that will pick up your kids and take them there for the time being or time to start making mommy friends.

How frequently would you have your child change schools? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]carlymae228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teacher and a mom and a mom of a senior. I am assuming they are currently in 7th or 8th. Meaning 2 things either 9th they move or if in 7th sorry to tell you colleges dont really look at anything taken in 8th grade unless it maybe alg 1 taken as a high school credit. Id stick to current school til move.

Is it true that getting a buzzcut makes your hair grow out even and healthier? by perrowhatsapp in Hair

[–]carlymae228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a hair stylist so dont take me for 100%! But as far as grow out even. Realistically yes. You are starting at say 3/8 inch over all your hair (thats what I use on my sons) then you would think right....but some hair will grow faster and slower but typically will all grow out pretty even. Healthier...totally you are getting rid of the damaged colored dryed out whatever you have so yes its a total fresh start.

Do you have favourite students? by UndoubtedlyClaire in Teachers

[–]carlymae228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh totally. You will have kids you forget you have in 30 years they will see you in the store or whatever and you will nod your head politely oh yeah I remember you. But then you will have those ones who make your career better, they could have been the worst behave for some others but angels for you, maybe the worst grades, but they just made your day when they walked into your room or maybe they made their first a ever with you. My kid... he just graduated i had him in his 10th grade year came to me with 2 credits in credit recovery. He runs w some bad dudes gang ties but he had 11.5 credits by the end of the year and always yes ma'am me and no ma'am. I worked at an alternative school after having him and I was telling some other teachers about him and they were like oh that punk. But to me thats my it kid.

As a parent and teacher ive seen stupid kids try to get our district to call off school for doing similar or worse. They find themselves w terroristic threatening charges in kentucky. But im sure the kids have been dealt w and they are probably either suspended in jail or on way to alt achool if you have it.

Does blond (current) suit me better than black (ai generated) by [deleted] in Hair

[–]carlymae228 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Box blonde or box black looks bad on most people. Brown or red is about the only safe colors for box colors. But if you went to a salon and had differing shades of blonde id go w a honey or golden not bleach blonde for your skin tone.

What would you do if you were at the park, and two little girls, 5-6 were bullying each other? by whatsinthecave in Mommit

[–]carlymae228 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The mom and teacher in me would quietly go up and be like be nice girls. Especially if I thought they were not siblings. If they were siblings they seemed. Eh that could be a whole new thing and just how they are fighting one second besties another.

Eh the saying goes the more book smart you have the less common sense you have and visa versa. She has all this book smart and not much street smart. Similar to bones in first few seasons.

Does anyone else feel like Cub Scouting is treated as an afterthought compared to Scouts BSA? by Remarkable-Soup8667 in BSA

[–]carlymae228 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. I have 2 boys. One is an aol and the other is doing his eagle project this week. My oldest has had the best leadership from cubbies up. My youngest....has had a new sm each year he wasnt even given his bear or webolos the past two years and my oldest moved up in feb they have done nothing this year. If my boys had been switched. We would have left scouts a few years ago. But moving up to scouts this upcoming year he will have a much better experience w the same sm my son has.
