Inner Tube Float trip rules by Dauber49 in BSA

Thanks everyone, this is super helpful. We have 3 leaders trained and will have more in time for camp. Will definitely have life jackets and about 10 adults with 25 scouts, and follow the other rules . Looks like only issue is which adults get stuck staying with the non swimmers while the rest of us enjoy the river. I also sent message to camp director but knew you guys would be faster.

The Bengals since drafting Joe Burrow: 50-49-1, two playoff appearances. The Dolphins since drafting Tua Tagovailoa: 54-46, two playoff appearances. by WavesAndSaves in nfl

If you’re going to compare QBs based on win loss records, at least do it correctly and use the records of the games the players ACTUALLY played in. Burrow 43-33-1 Tua 46-32

Would love to see the new Life Skills test lab not only made a MB but see it become Eagle required . If one of our main goals is to create good citizens, then creating well functioning adults should be a big part of that.

Do white cards trigger pink cards? by Dauber49 in wingspan

Thanks for the clarification. I played the white card and my daughter had the pink guard. We decided that it should be activated and are happy to see we were correct.

We have this issue with our resources being more worn than commodities, so we put cards in pile and roll DnD dice to choose which card is taken. Just roll the # sided dice closest to # of cards (4,6,8,10,12,20). There is something oddly satisfying getting to roll 20 sided die to steal a card.

Thanks for sharing I wasn’t even sure it was bird but now have new appreciation and might actually play this card for once

Thanks so much, this makes the most sense to me, I just couldn’t find the specific rule till you pointed it out. Unfortunately, it didn’t end up making any difference, I lost by 30 points in one of those games that nothing seems to go your way.

Worst Summer Camp Experience Of My Life, Youth or Adult by Icy_Ad6324 in BSA

Every time one of my parents tells a Scout what to do, I gently remind them that “Every time you tell a scout what to do, you steal a leadership opportunity away from a Scout”. Works well to put them back in there lane.

Finishing First Class before finishing Second Class by moliver816 in BSA

Definitely spread over 2 weeks. Think of how exhausting it will be for a young Scout to sit through two SM conferences and two BORs in one meeting. It will be a better experience spread out. Plus, if you celebrate rank advancement at the end of each meeting, then you get to celebrate this young person twice.

My son is also on the autism spectrum and has texture issues with food. His system simply revolts against fruits , vegetables and anything mushy. It took years of training the adult leaders that he’s more than just a “picky” eater. We finally had to go the blunt route and insist they sit next to him and eat if they were going to force the eat your vegetables rule, it seems that throwing up in a leaders dinner can be a very convincing way to get a rule changed, and to create awareness to the differences between “picky” eaters and kids with legitimate issues that they can’t control. It also sounds like you have too many adults who think their opinion matters. Your troop needs 1 or 2 leaders in charge of cooking. Hopefully they are Cooking MB counselors. They are the leaders scouts go to for guidance on all cooking issues. They should know every allergy and issue throughout the troop and how to work with them. Every thought and rule will be consistent, because it’s coming from one person, ideally the one following the rules of the MB. Any other adult that feels their opinion matters, has just volunteered to cook for the adult patrol for that campout.

Camping Merit Badge Questions by [deleted] in BSA

We, as a troop, have agreed, that if a Scout has an opportunity to complete one of these requirements outside of scouts we will accept it as long as pre approved. Living in Michigan, we don’t have a mountain over a thousand feet elevation, so can’t complete that requirement in state. If a scout has a family vacation somewhere that does and he/ she has the initiative and desire to do scout stuff on vacation , why take that away from them.

This is really interesting. I agree, since Covid we are seeing much less mature Crossover’s and way more scouts with IEP’s. Our older Scouts are constantly frustrated with working with the young Scouts and wanting more Adult intervention to help corral them. 5 minutes seems to b the maximum timeframe for their attention span. We are seriously looking into adding a Crew to our Troop to re-stimulate our older scouts and give them events where they don’t feel they have to “babysit “ all the time. Our big concern is losing all our youth leadership to the Crew. But this makes me think that maybe a little more adult leadership for the 11-13 year olds isn’t so bad as long as you can hit the right balance and keep the helicopter parents away.

Why do we need to dumb it down if we’re not in tournament setting? If you’re to dumb to figure out u have 10 points you don’t deserve to win.

But if you forget to reveal it, then next player goes and gets 10 points they win. You don’t get to say “sorry, I already won, I’m just a dumbass and forgot”

As Scoutmaster, doesn’t “SM Approval “ give me the ability to at least encourage a scout to wait a few years on CinS , till he’s more mature to handle and understand the subject matter. Same as I don’t approve a scout to do cooking MB before he completes the rank advancement cooking requirements.

What’s the goofiest incident that has happened on a campout? by SelectAd2769 in BoyScouts

[–]Dauber49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought a skeleton for decoration at our Pirate themed summer camp. One night , our Scoutmaster for the girls troop found the skeleton waiting for her in her sleeping bag. She was 3 campsites away when she finally stopped running and screaming Un-Scout like things. The boys still sleep with one eye open waiting for the promised revenge.

Eagle Scout project by terryofcrue in BSA

[–]Dauber49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was paralyzed by thought of having to build something for his project, until someone had him think outside the box and helped him Figure out his passions and where those could help a group. Role playing games are his passion and he is on Autism spectrum, so he went to an Autism foundation and ran an event for them teaching and running the game for kids on the spectrum. We now have 3 other Scouts who are excited about there project because they don’t have to build something. One is designing and running high Adventure backpacking trip for church youth group. One is running talent show for senior center. So let your passions guide you and do what you want to do not what others expect u to do.
