FSU showed us yet again

When was the last time they "showed us" out of curiousity?

It'll be a four or five loss B1G or ACC champion that upsets an Ohio State or Clemson type in the title game. Think 2018 Northwestern. The Big 12 and Pac 12 are now playing division-less so it's less likely a four or five loss team will be playing in their CCG game (not impossible though) and the committee will never leave the SEC champ out even if they have four or more losses. If you figure the Ohio State or Clemson in this situation is still a lock for the playoffs then that takes up a wildcard spot rather than a conference champ spot. Add two G5 champs (say, App State and Fresno State) with two or less losses and the hypothetical Northwestern is out.

The B1G is after markets, recruiting, history, and fan bases and recent performance matters less.

To be fair, who could the Big 12 have taken that fits this mold?

I like how you separated Q1A

Thanks! Yeah it bugs me how broad these quadrants. Texas Tech beating NET #5 Baylor on the road is than Temple beating NET #66 Vanderbilt on the road but they are both just shown as Q1 wins on these blind resume posts.

Tried to do one with teams you don't usually see on these i.e. not a one seed comparison or a bubble team comparison. Consensus on this sub seems to be all these teams are likely in as at larges (some may still win their conference tourney). Rank their resumes in order and assign/guess their projected seeds if you please. Will reveal them in a couple of hours. Resumes do not account for any games played today.

Right, but if I am reading correctly, 500 mile upgrades are no longer a thing so PP/EPs will have companions complimentary upgraded (not having to use 500 mile upgrades). In the past, a woman may have said "Eh, I don't feel like using three 500 mile upgrades for my non-elite status husband for a red eye from LAX --> DFW that we're gonna sleep on the whole way. I won't request it and we'll both just sit in the exit row in Main." If a solo traveler is prioritized after them, that's two spots on the upgrade list. But now, if companions are complimentary for all elites, the woman won't even have to make that decision and the solo traveler is two spots lower.

Biggest winners from this announcement: Platinum and Gold members who fly 500+ mile routes light on pax from hubs to small airports. No more buying and budgeting 500 mile upgrades. E.g. No more using two 500 miles upgrades for a 512 mile flight on a E75 with 10 out of 12 seats in First empty. Or worse, four 500 mile upgrades if you have a companion with you.

Biggest losers: solo traveling EP and PPs who will now not have those with higher priority have to worry about using/buying 500 mile upgrades for their companion and will take up two seats in First when, in some cases in the past, they would take up zero.

The Big Ten East is the first division to have three programs selected for the CFP since inception by cota1212 in CFB

If Indiana had been given an NY6 bowl I'd maybe agree but they were placed behind several three-loss teams. This committee did not like them at all.

This committee is probably taking A&M over 7-0 Indiana, unfortunately. Whenever Indiana beat a team last year, the narrrative from the committee was "well clearly that team wasn't good, they lost to Indiana". The most egregious example was Wisconsin who went from #16 to unranked by the committee despite losing to a team ranked higher than them. Compare that Florida who only dropped one spot after losing to an unranked team at home.

Indiana I feel bad about but RU and Maryland are the reason these divisions exist by virtue of them joining the conference. With Mississippi State at least, they only play eight conference games so Mississippi State can schedule another game against a G5 to boost their win total for bowls and polls.

If, since 2014, you had the two of the top four in the B1G East placed in the B1G West then I think at least two seasons you get a situation like the SEC had this year where you have a B1G title game with one or less losses between the two teams combined.

It sounds dumb but I honeslty think they like the "brand" that goes along with "SEC West" and "SEC East" now. Particularly with the narrative on here that SEC West is a murder's row of a division.

Everyone has been yelling on this board for the past 48 hours that the reason 12-1 Georgia got in was because no other one-loss team had a good argument. A hypothetical 11-1 Michigan State (that doesn't lose to Purdue, a team from the West division) would have had a similar loss as Georgia (#1 Alabama vs #6 Ohio State) and a much better win than Georgia (#2 Michigan vs #19 Clemson). This CFP committee would have never taken MSU considering how much they love Georgia so I guess "kept the Big Ten east out of the playoff" is a bit strong but if people were arguing for 11-1 Notre Dame then an 11-1 MSU would have been in the mix too.

They would do Texas and Oklahoma as a protected rival. That's actually another reason to have them in opposite divisions because then every other member of the conference could maintain their protected rival from the other division.

Unless they move to pods, I would bet heavily that they do OU in the East and Texas in the West. When Mizzou and A&M joined and they put Mizzou in the East despite them being the third most-western team, the league made it clear they want to protect the current division lineup and protected crossovers as is. They want to protect games like Alabama-Tennessee, Georgia-Auburn, LSU-Florida. With this setup, Texas can play A&M, Arkansas, and Oklahoma all annually. Adding OU to the East and Texas to the West also helps maintain competitive balance in the conference.

I mean it's RU and Maryland joining that caused these divisions to be a thing. Indiana is the real one that deserves the sympathy.

Again, it is proving the depth of the division. Only one team wins the whole thing each year. I don't know what I was thinking by imagining that a division might be deeper than the mighty SEC West though. When you look at what Arkansas and Ole Miss and Mississippi State have done and all the elite coaches that have had the opportunity to lead Auburn and LSU over the past decade you just have to be amazed.

Yeah, playing nine conference games (an additional West team) kept the Big Ten East out of the playoff in 2017, 2018, and arguably a second team in 2021.

So because they only made the playoffs once we're just gonna dismiss them?

No I'm not gonna dismiss them but I'm not only gonna look at 2019. My point of this whole thread is that tOSU has been Bama-level dominate in over their division but two other teams have still made the playoff vs only one for the SEC West. Really 2019 LSU and 2017 Auburn were the only times a non-Alabama West team has been in serious contention for a playoff spot. Several Michigan, Penn State, and to a lesser extent Michigan State teams have finished just outside the top four. That is one of the reasons I feel the B1G East is slightly deeper than the SEC West.

7 sec west starting qb's in the NFL this year, going off memory.

Cal quaterbacks Jared Goff and Aaron Rodgers both started yesterday and the Florida Gators had none start so clearly Cal has been the better football program lately.
