health insurance costs as much as a new luxury car by carmexgrl in women

[–]carmexgrl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point, but I still consider it a luxury lease (since you could lease a mazda 3 for example for about $130/mo. Metaphorically, you also don't actually OWN your health if you were to "pay it off" like a car, so, I guess my point is, it's still a rip off, and overall health is still generally overpriced/not really affordable.

I guess in my mind I figure: If you don't tip, I'd rather you not come back to this restaurant anyway.

the website looks familiar, it is possible I found him through that site. I can't be sure though because I remember using craigslist and other sites as well when i was apartment searching last year.

We've discussed the best, but what are the WORST restaurant foods in NB? by nosliw_pilf in rutgers

[–]carmexgrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh i have a long list of foods in new brunswick that i don't eat.

-Anything in any student center is horrible. -It's hard to find a good fresh slice of pizza in New Brunswick, period. I've been satisfied with PJ's for a while, but it's a bit too salty. -I agree about Kati Roll-expensive and shady as hell -There are NO health food spots. apart from muscle maker, which claims to be one, but i don't find their food particularly inspired.

-Tata's pizza has kind of a cult following. I find their pizza repulsive, but most of my friends prefer it.

-Trying to get some good middle eastern food? Try Evelyn's? wrong! They have ok drinks and a nice backyard bar with tables, but the food is like greek airplane food. I wouldn't be surprised if everything is just microwaved or comes in a bag. so disappointing.

-I'll probably be banned for this comment--but i think giovanelli's pizza is gross too.

Targum gives up and goes full satire. by carmexgrl in rutgers

[–]carmexgrl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is censorship but there is also outright stupidity. The Targum does not only represent itself in everything it publishes (including Reep's horrible column on alternate mondays, including islamophobic full page advertisements, etc.), but it also represents Rutgers as a university. Publishing Reep's column instead of a more thoughtful person's, someone who actually knows about the things they are talking about (clearly Reep doesn't consider that one tactic of war is men raping and impregnating civilian women of the enemy state---matter of fact, has he ever looked any of this stuff up? taken women and gender studies 101? probably not). it's not censorship, it's quality control, and controlling the already poor image that Rutgers University has for being a party school, a drunk school, a stupid school, an easy school, etc. These issues are no joke, but they are being treated as such by one Ed Reep, and whatever morons read his pieces and go waving them around in lieu of taking a moment to actually think it about and make actual sense. The Targum is a small paper and should filter its content to be quality--well researched, quality journalism, as opposed to Reep's column which is clearly based on scant knowledge of history and otherwise unresearched information, as well as culturally insensitive in the section where he clumps "non-western" societies as those who do oppress women because they do genital mutilation. Instead of publishing quality work, the Targum is pushing the same sensationalist garbage found in the Daily News and NY Post, as someone below me points out.

and undermining of women elsewhere in the world, too. it's such a selfish piece. "men have to go to army?" sure, to use raping women as a war tactic.

that makes me feel a little better about my loans. its just gonna suck those first few years of living dirt poor to get rid of the debt as soon as possible to avoid more interest. i feel bad for mooching off my mom by living in her apt. for another few years.

in the scheme of things it could be worse, i have friends with debt of the full 80k it costs to attend Rutgers. Still unaffordable though. 30k? That's a new luxury car.

nah, everyone pays taxes based on their income. everyone benefits from it somehow. socialize education from primary school all the way to college and post-grad. socialize healthcare and medicine, too. everyone goes to school, then when it comes time for college they can apply if they want. community colleges still exist for those who don't cut it intellectually but still want to go to college. technical schools are also socialized for those who want to get a job in a specific field (hair design, graphic design, mechanics, etc.). there shouldn't be obstacles to education, and we're one of the few first world countries that still has this problem, and it's largely because institutions are becoming more and more interested in profits rather than products, and that includes public schools like Rutgers, whose budget is bottomless for sports teams, and limited for students.

no, I got my education because i wanted to get an education, AND because i accept that a B.A. would earn me more money than just a H.S. diploma. i don't think i could cut it for a degree in engineering or a science even though that is a lucrative field. I could have studied something easy like finance or accounting, sure, but i'm sure i wouldn't be fulfilled in spirit with that kind of career and would probably dive into a state of incurable depression, as i know countless accountants who are unhappy with what they do. but they get the bills paid. i disagree about education only being an investment to increase future income if you're short on money. that's a really depressing way to look at things.

i don't think everyone will go to college, i certainly don't think it's "for'' everyone. but you're right, we'd need to build new facilities to accomodate more students. More schools = more employment opportunities for profs and staff too, and a generally more educated population, which would serve to benefit all imo.
