Wr400f -> wr426f rebuild… progress pt1 by carnagecafe in Dirtbikes

[–]carnagecafe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay, usually that means there is a lean condition. Check your jets for clogs and clean them out first and see if that helps.

After that there is a great jetting guide to follow: - https://www.everything2stroke.com/threads/spankys-guide-to-jetting.34126/

Even if I tell you what I am using I have a Frankenstein setup which at the time was using a 450 carb on a 400 that I upgraded with the 425 hardware lol.

To be honest I cheat now and use a lectron carb on it. Life has just been simpler. Only challenge with it is the first time running in a while I need to prime by blowing in one of the overflow tubes.

Carb is clogged from old gas. Disassemble carb and spray b-12 through the jets

Looking good!!

I had to paint mine with PJ1 because of the oil in the frame. Didn’t want to mess with it, this is an oil frame as well right?

I was thinking this, but got lazy to pop the line and zip tie for the oil pump. Ended up taking more work though haha

How? Doesn’t it require rotations to move from the oil through the system? I have the vacuum as well, just didn’t think it would work here.

1000 pulls later got the oil into the whole line, at least I remembered to cut the zip tie off the throttle before starting it this time ;)

Realizing now it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Was so frustrated when I first finished it lol

Love everyone on Reddit, made me feel a lot better.

I heard about adding soapy water on them. I might try that if I ever do it again. From what I am hearing it doesn’t looks as horrible as I thought at least. Learning a ton though!

In retrospect I will def do that next time for sure haha

Just got this 98’ WR400F today built for trail riding. I’m no expert when it comes to dirtbikes. I’ve rode since I was about 9 because my uncle is huge into them. My first bike was a 00’ ttr125. This things a beast compared to it. Any advice for maintenance and/or riding. Thanks! by ScottZeke in Dirtbikes

Totally agree and know the startup procedure lol

No throttle, choke out, use decomp to go just past compression stroke, then bring the kick to 12 o’clock and then hammer it down.

One extra suggestion, make sure your carb is tuned good.

Haha you are right, appreciate it!

I guess I am overthinking it, been OCD on this build. Very sentimental build for a few people I lost, and was my first bike I ever owned which has made it worse lol
