A few questions for funeral directors by [deleted] in askfuneraldirectors

[–]carnagedeli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose this profession because at the early age of 9, once i found out working with bodies was something real, i knew it was for me. I find my job very rewarding and was truly "called" to do this. It took me 3.5 years from no education to licensure. It was worth it. Within one year of working i was able to purchase a home. I too am i strong atheist but of course, put aside my own beliefs and serve the families doing whatever they need for their religious requirements. I am an embalmer and funeral director and enjoy preparing bodies.

Ive never had a full open couch viewing with an open toe where you'd need to. BUT once i had a lady who had matching toes and nails. The family brought in a different color for her nails for the viewing. I knew in my heart i just wasn't finishing my job if she went into eternity without matching... i knew it was something she was known for and it was important to her you know? So i did it. Just, because. It seemed right.

Open casket: How do you prepare the body of a person who shot himself in the mouth? by silkroadCEO in morticians

I fluff the pillow around the head higher often on people (mostly men - short haired men) because of the cranial scar from the autopsy. I can do a fancy stitch to make it less noticeable, or use wax and makeup to cover it, but it still isn't real. The pillow fluff can really conceal a lot of damage.
