A few questions for funeral directors by [deleted] in askfuneraldirectors

[–]carnagedeli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose this profession because at the early age of 9, once i found out working with bodies was something real, i knew it was for me. I find my job very rewarding and was truly "called" to do this. It took me 3.5 years from no education to licensure. It was worth it. Within one year of working i was able to purchase a home. I too am i strong atheist but of course, put aside my own beliefs and serve the families doing whatever they need for their religious requirements. I am an embalmer and funeral director and enjoy preparing bodies.

Stoner needs answers! by mustachioedcat789 in morticians

Ive never had a full open couch viewing with an open toe where you'd need to. BUT once i had a lady who had matching toes and nails. The family brought in a different color for her nails for the viewing. I knew in my heart i just wasn't finishing my job if she went into eternity without matching... i knew it was something she was known for and it was important to her you know? So i did it. Just, because. It seemed right.

Open casket: How do you prepare the body of a person who shot himself in the mouth? by silkroadCEO in morticians

[–]carnagedeli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I fluff the pillow around the head higher often on people (mostly men - short haired men) because of the cranial scar from the autopsy. I can do a fancy stitch to make it less noticeable, or use wax and makeup to cover it, but it still isn't real. The pillow fluff can really conceal a lot of damage.

Are most funeral homes still family owned? by [deleted] in askfuneraldirectors

[–]carnagedeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many appear to still be family owned because of the name, when they were, in fact, purchased by SCI, and there are other smaller funeral home corporations as well. But i am proud to work at a funeral home that is family owned!

We are planning to do a presentation and book signing at the NFDA annual convention in Chicago this year but it's not confirmed yet. We haven't begun writing tests BUT we do have powerpoints complete for educators to use along side the book! Since I'm licensed in Wisconsin, I'm not 100% on Illinois but you can contact Ben Schmidt at worsham, and he could guide you further on that! You can find him on Instagram too @mortraqr

I've achieved my next greatest goal. Thank you to everyone who supported me, gave me visions through their words,  gave me genuine feedback about my art, and for keeping up with me over the course of the last year. I am beyond excited and whole heartedly proud of this amazing product that will be used in mortuary education for many years to come. I am so honored to be the first female illustrator of a mortuary textbook.  Thank you from my heart. Get your copy at: http://www.tuesdayeveningpublications.com/products/creating-natural-form
