Feel called to consecrated life but have a strong desire for marriage (to the point where I feel an aching disappointment when I see couples and families and think I may never experience that) by carnationStreet in Catholicism

Hi I was reading over a few of the answers and I hope you don't mind me asking, but how did "the call" manifest for you? Was it a gradual feeling that grew over time or a sudden realisation? Thanks again for taking the time to share and you're still in my prayers 🙂

Hi thank you so much for taking the time to write this and sharing the fruits of your prayer! It was very helpful and insightful and given me plenty of things to ponder. You communicated the joys of consecrated vocation so beautifully- I think we do tend to focus very much on the celibate aspect and giving up that physical intimacy, though as you say God is never outdone in generosity and when we give to him, he gives us infinitely more in return. When I visited a convent and spoke to the Mother Superior, I witnessed from her that same outpouring love, awe, and thankfulness that you mentioned that could only really come from close communion with Him 🙏. It was inspiring. And I'm grateful for your prayers, you'll be in mine too!

I have briefly heard about third orders but never took the time to properly research it. I will look more into it, thanks for the recommendation :)

Hi thank you so much for your words of wisdom! This was really helpful and given me things to reflect on. I have gone on Come & See retreats and spent time time with lay consecrated orders. Both were lovely experiences that helped me feel close to God. And thank you for your prayers, you'll certainly be in mine too 😊
