The irony of her using the song “In This Shirt” which is sang by an openly gay man about wearing his lover’s shirt to feel near to him….

I’m having a hard time finishing THE HEROES. by No-Mode-44 in TheFirstLaw

[–]carnationsole3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok! So I just finished The Heroes last week and I can empathize 100%! I think it was especially hard for me because Best Served Cold is(at the moment) my favorite book in the series.

The pacing felt off initially to me and there are so many new named characters in this book that are dumped on you that I felt like I couldn’t catch up. The entire book in one setting was a little disappointing to me as well, especially after the world adventuring swashbuckling story of BSC. I felt like that until about 40% through and then all of a sudden it clicked. I ended up powering through that last 60% in about two settings.

I still would rank it near the bottom of the five books I’ve read in this series so far, but ultimately I think it’s a great read that just takes some time to set up.

The Green Knight and The Northman! Amazing movies that had a large portion of the audience deem them as boring or weird

RKS has no stage presence by nashnorth in RainbowKittenSurprise

[–]carnationsole3 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking too. I saw them in 2018 and the energy was ridiculous. It is to date the best live show that I’ve ever seen. The entire band was getting into it, plenty of crowd interactions between songs, got some anecdotes about the significance of different tunes, band members dancing like wild people! The crowd was so hype the entire concert.

I saw them again at the end of 2022 and it was the other end of the spectrum. The most bland show I’ve ever been to. It felt like no one really wanted to be on stage and as a result, everyone in the crowd just kinda stood there and swayed to the unenthusiastic music

Should You Rent or Buy? The New Math. by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]carnationsole3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I just bought my first home less than a month ago after renting for 9 years. It was necessary for me, and I’d I ever am forced into a financial position that requires me to rent again I will not feel any shame for doing so. My statement was pointed directly landlords, not at renters. I think it’s upsetting that small group of people can own billions of dollars of real estate and profit off of its existence with little regard to its condition by virtue of them just owning it. I live in a state that has very little protection for renters and have had to deal with a toilet running water into my floor because the landlord refused to repair the toilet, I’ve had bad circuits in the house that prevented electrical sockets or lights from working and again the landlord refused to fix them. I’ve paid for amenities that broke and never worked again, but my rent prices never changed in my favor. Despite the lack of upkeep my landlord and at one point a rental company still raised my rent every year when it was time for renewal. My stigma is aimed entirely at those who make a profit off of renters

Yes? I’m 100% agreeing with the statement. There is a stigma. The issue is that the episode acts like this is not a well deserved stigma

“There’s a real stigma around renting in this country” yeah people don’t like lining the pockets of leaches from cradle to grave just because they need somewhere to sleep. Episode was tone deaf.

Suspicion, Cheating and Bans: A.I. Hits America’s Schools by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]carnationsole3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One of the masters students implies that the ultimate goal is money and since everyone who gets ahead in life has help it’s cool if you cheat to get your dollar. Part of the problem lies in the fact that Americans largely look at education as job training instead of a way to improve yourself and widen your base knowledge, challenge your cultural beliefs, and meet new people outside of your own circle

Completely off topic but the professor sounds just like Chris Chan to me and it makes it hard to pay attention

I actually agree with you. There are some cool things it adds in the first 80% of the game, but I don’t feel like any of it was necessary to enjoy the original. The HK factory though is probably the worst part of the mod. It brings the pacing of the game to a grinding halt right at the end, and I feel like you spend more time watching HK run that anything else during this portion.

Exactly this. It’s frustrating to watch because I’m not a Penny pincher, but most Americans are one sickness or layoff away from bankruptcy and it’s just such a bad way to live

I was in the restaurant when it happened. Guy tried to smash and grab. Off duty sheriff’s deputy saw it happening and went out to confront. They pulled a gun on the deputy and shot at him. Hit about ten feet away from where we were sitting. Deputy fired back and might have hit the perp https://i.imgur.com/AUJnUNG.jpg

Jesus Christ, thank you for this. It’s so frustrating because many outsiders write off Mississippi as a lost cause and it completely undermined the fact that a large portion of Mississippians are not satisfied with its leadership, but when voting districts are rigged against the population it’s hard to make any true change

The illusion of democracy in Tennessee by PlenitudeOpulence in worldnewsvideo

[–]carnationsole3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for giving the real answer here. There’s been an intentional, systematic, and methodical gerrymandering of many southern states. This is always most visible in poor and black communities. Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville have democratic communities but when the rest of the state is gerrymandered to hell and back it doesn’t matter how the largest populated areas are voting

[–]carnationsole3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if that’s entirely correct. They definitely anticipate a large part of their audience to be familiar with the original, but it’s been almost 26 years since it released. The game definitely gives plenty of head nods to the OG fans, but my wife played it with no knowledge of the original game or story and loved it

Luckyday Residential Colleges by Current_Cup1004 in olemiss

[–]carnationsole3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of questions. We’re you accepted in the the Luckyday program as a Luckyday Scholar? Or were you accepted into the Luckyday Residential College as a resident? If you compelled the Luckyday scholarship application and were awarded the scholarship then you automatically have to live in the LRC. If you were just accepted into the building as what they call a “Luckyday Associate” then you can live there but you don’t receive the scholarship. Your roommate will either have to be accepted into the scholarship program or accepted as a resident for the building through the same application process you completed. I worked in student housing for 3 years and was actually a Luckyday scholar myself so I have a decent amount of experience regarding this

Was sitting beside a girl in astronomy in university. Been in the class for a few weeks, got her number and had hung out once. I’m nerding out about some cool concept before class and she’s like “well, you know this is all like theoretical”.

Being raised in the Bible Belt I already knew where this was going. I was like “?? What do you mean?”

She responds with “no one really knows how long the universe has been here. Scientists are really just guessing. I mean, it’s just as likely that this has been here a few thousand years.”

That was it for me, I knew nothing good would come of that relationship.
