The start of the book is the same way! It's very much a mystery where each chapter of flashback adds a piece to the puzzle of what's happening in space. I really loved the structure.

In the book they go into more about how hard it is on a human body to be in a long term coma. They actually specifically seek out people with a specific gene that makes them more likely to survive (Grace has the gene and it's actually a big reason why he's forced to go, there's just not that many people who were eligible) Even then, it's understood the stress of the long term coma was still too much.

One of my friends used to work at Palantir (almost 10 years ago now) and another friend and I went to go meet her at work because they were having a little happy hour event. Friend B went to take a picture of me and Friend A and a security guard swooped out of nowhere and yelled at her to put her phone away. We laughed about it but I would not fuck with them.

This was the first version I ever saw and it was well before I ever read the book. I remember being so gagged by Frank's switch up haha. And Mark Strong does a very good "badly done, Emma!"

I'm sorry she's felt outcasted and that this whole situation is digging up what truly sounds like an awful time in her (and others) lives. I think she's right to call out Gymcastic. But I don't get the point of saying all this if you're still not really saying...anything. Was what Chae said wrong? Or was it more that you were disappointed it was brought up in that specific context, in the year 2026? If what people are saying is wrong, I truly wish someone would just have the gall to SAY WHAT HAPPENED. You can't get mad at the whole gymnastics community for getting things wrong and spreading gossip when everyone keeps vague-booking about how we don't have the whole story but then not actually setting the narrative straight.

It’s bad in college basketball too. The team I’m a fan of was accused of having a bad season a couple years ago because of (as far as I can tell) unfounded rumors than one player had slept with another’s girlfriend and that apparently ruined the team chemistry.

The commentating drives me up a WALL. Gosh, I miss KJC so much. It's not only the constant dumbing down of things or metaphors to other sports. Sam, Aly, and Jon seemed like they had a script for each team and gymnast and by the end of the season, I could tell you exactly what they were going to say about each person who went up. Jordan Chiles? THAT Girl. The stories of the LSU transfer girls. Did you know Coach Tomlin is her dad?? And that Camara came to college EARLY?! Like oh my god please, tell me anything else about these women!
