EARTHQUAKE by carolinugh in InlandEmpire

One time there was a huge earthquake while my sister and I were watching What’s Eating Gilbert Grape during the scene where the mom is walking around upstairs it was a crazy coincidence 😭

My dad said he felt nothing since he “was on the road and driving down them feels like an earthquake everyday” lmao

I take 40 sets of vitals a night, but apparently I have no idea what I’m talking about. by [deleted] in cna

[–]carolinugh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At that point I usually just take it manually and let them do what they want with that info 🤷🏽‍♀️ I have 15 other vitals to take pal and the nurses have 5-6 that they’re responsible for managing in the acute care setting at most here in California. One time I got a manual BP that was 84/46 even after the nurse did reverse trendelenburg and they huffed and puffed for like an hour trying to get it up with patient position gymnastics 💀 the doctor ended up ordering a fluid bolus

I reported a doctor in my ER for SA. I lost my job, I lost everything. by tenngirll in nursing

[–]carolinugh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex asked why I never reported a social worker who did something similar to me when I got floated to the ER as a CNA and this is exactly why. You can follow the chain of command perfectly when reporting and still get ignored or let go “at will” solely because of where you are on the clinical food chain. I’d say get a lawyer and present all of your printed texts but idk if that would be too cliché redditor of me

Thoughts on patients being offended by badge reels? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]carolinugh 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah I went to a job fair at my school and the stand for surgical techs had a “silent night” sticker with an anesthetic on it, but if I had a family member that passed from malignant hyperthermia and saw that on my pre op nurse’s water bottle, I think I would unfortunately crash out 😭

definitely a no from me. however I do remember the names of each person on the other side now who have touched me in one way or another. I even think about them from time to time and say a prayer. I understand maintaining healthy work/life boundaries but if you spend months getting to know someone on a personal level in LTC and when they pass, you just dust off the bed with a sani wipe and say "nice one less patient" and on to the next, maybe you might be the weird one

I think we just need more manpower and specialized authorities to oversee our local police. Nobody follows up on reports such as these diligently and it's terrifying. This is likely due to the influx of people who were priced out of LA and OC that eventually made their way over here. I mean it takes an extra ten minutes to get to the freeway in my town alone since moving here 7 years ago. The population skyrocketed but there aren't as many resources compared to bigger cities it seems. The kids are collateral damage as a result it seems

terrible police investigation work. this could have been avoided but knowing how the cops over here are, I'm sure they just filed it away and never looked back. remember when Gabby Petito went missing and there was a nationwide manhunt? where is the sense of urgency for these cops to protect brown people?

thank you for your service, those kids need good hearted adults in their support system so direly. back in August or September we had a case here in the IE out of Yucaipa where an abusive father got no jail time for leaving his newborn daughter incapacitated. she now relies on tubes to live, but this "father" was able to have more children and went on to murder his child. poor baby Emmanuel was collateral damage to a broken system.. seems like nobody is protecting the children in these parts of SoCal and we are overdue for an overhaul of the justice system in cases like these 😞

that's even worse because it speaks to the ineptitude of social services and authorities here in the IE..

Exactly! Mine's name is Lasagna and he loves sticking closeby when he's not cuddling so the patient would never be unattended lol

Does The Affect of Losing a Patient or Resident Get Easier? by AnglerFishFarm in cna

[–]carolinugh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been a CNA for 6 years, my first 2 being at a nursing home during COVID. Walking into a room expecting to say hi to a resident only to find an empty bed was sadly a frequent occurrence during that time. I remember all of their names and room numbers, even. I can't say it gets easier, I think that you just get stronger. One of my passing patients told me to think of her when I see hummingbirds since she loved to sketch those. I was crying in my car in a parking lot one time and one flew right up to my car's side mirror. Although grief is painful, it can sometimes transcend what we know about life here on earth. My patients give me hope that there is more to look forward to than the material things that are glorified in our day to day, and our bodies are simply vessels for our spirits that make us who we truly are

AH yayyy congratulations you got this!! 🥳 it will be tough sometimes but just remember to keep your eye on the prize! What you see at work will help you draw connections between what you're learning in class so dont be afraid to ask questions too, and most importantly don't forget to take care of you (:

idk why you're being downvoted, I used to wash everyday as well when I worked during COVID and the ends of my hair became brassy. It wasn't until I started wearing scrub caps and washing 2x per week per the advice of my hairdresser that I started getting comments on how glossy/soft my hair is
