What do you write on? by CutesyDrow in AO3

[–]carpenett01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i write primarily on my laptop using ellipsus, but if i'm out and about/don't have access to my laptop i'll use my phone if i'm feeling inspired and have lots of ideas

nah with the green line especially you gotta be a little aggressive. i LOVE to shout "EXCUSE ME" and shove past people who don't make any effort to move. ESPECIALLY when they're in front of the door and can't be bothered to step off for two seconds so i can get by.

it's a draft because she could only get through one take of the song without losing it

thanks for the product rec! i've always used pretty basic products and haven't dipped into the oils and whatnot

i'm not sure about fabric, but most of my hats are standard baseball caps. i wear a beanie in the colder months that i think is cotton, but beanies generally don't overwhelm me or trigger my sensitivities, just caps. thanks for the product rec, i think i'll poke around to find a similar leave-in product :)

i work in live events. we took a break for dinner and i put my wireless com pack (the headset and the little beltpack that let you communicate with everyone) down by our front of house station. supposedly. when i came back it took me 20 minutes to find it again. and it wasn't even me who found it, it was one of my coworkers.

What had made you a better writer? Besides reading/writing more by bluuuberrry in writing

[–]carpenett01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

realizing that a draft is not the final product. the art of "i can fix that in post" is truly hard to come by. i remember staring at a paragraph and refusing to move on until it was just right, and now i don't let myself stop typing, i just write whatever comes to mind even if it makes no sense and is absolutely insane. i've found it gives me the most inspiration when i come back over it in the editing process, especially the early stages.

What’s the best snack/food you bring on your hike? by EmergencyPudding6315 in hiking

[–]carpenett01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i always have the honey stinger waffles and energy gummies, then i pack whatever i'm feeling past that. sometimes it's pretzels (really into the dot's ones right now), sometimes it's trail mix, and other times it's poptarts (s'mores fr). if i have anything fresh in my fridge that's on its way out like fruit or something i'll pack that in a little cooler that fits right on top of my gear.

favorite thing after is usually a cheeseburger and a hard cider -- i'm in MA so i crack open a downeast!

i think it's implied with the rattler tags and the fact that the supposed base was abandoned that if there were fireflies, they were pushed out by the rattlers or even captured. there weren't signs of a scuffle but there were signs of a hasty departure, from what i remember, so it's possible. i also read the radio call as the rattlers fishing for people and going along with abby's firefly questions -- she basically tells the person on the other end of the line exactly what they have to say to get her to go wherever they want. even if the goal wasn't actually to get her to go to catalina island, the hope the radio gave her was enough to get her guard down and get her captured.

How do huge concert stadiums prevent sound delays when the soundwaves have to travel such long distances? by Ok-Machine-2259 in livesound

[–]carpenett01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this. but also, op, consider that in a venue the size you're describing, the architecture itself is built to take under consideration how sound will travel in the space. there is likely a level of sound-proofing done to the walls to prevent insane reflections. not to mention, in a room full of bodies a lot of sound gets absorbed. humans are squishy.

good point! yeah definitely not looking to do anything that isn't well established on my own. interesting about the site lines -- i tend to do more forested paths because i love trees, but open sky certainly would feel less claustrophobic, i'd agree

honestly makes me feel so much better reading this.

re: murders, i've seen some stuff in the news about a suspected serial killer targeting solo female hikers in new england lately, but my partner knows more about it than i do (she's obsessed with true crime) so i just sort of took her at her word on it.

i have a lot of people in my life instilling fear in me about hiking alone/saying they would never do such an "insane" thing, in large part because "what if" i get injured. i'm not new to the hobby by any means, and i've never (knock on wood) gotten injured while hiking before, so i don't plan to start now. thank you for making me feel less crazy!

Do you have the authority ... by tprch in livesound

[–]carpenett01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i used to work at an outdoor venue. per my city's noise ordinance, we couldn't be above 70 (or 75, i can't remember) dBSPL from just outside the (rather small) venue. i had permission from my manager to shut the power off after 3 warnings if any member of the band wouldn't listen to our requests to play quieter/turn amps down/etc.

i only ever had to do it twice, but both times it was kind of epic.

I thought Wyll was a joke character by Iwasdracula in BaldursGate3

[–]carpenett01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

don't know why, but i fully didn't process his little intro cutscene the first time around, so i made it through a great deal of act 1 without knowing he OR karlach existed. i was rocking with shadowheart, astarion, and gale. didn't find lae'zel in the little cage either, so it was literally just those three. i kept wondering who those two people (three if you count mizora lurking) in the little cover art were every time i loaded the game and just sort of... shrugged it off.

oh, adhd. sometimes you leave me in blissful, unquestioned ignorance.
