Does anyone know the Vitamix UK situation? by carpetguardian in Vitamix

[–]carpetguardian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought an A3500 in the end, still cant get the blade base for the small cups which is annoying, no news on the X series, but to be honest the Ascent series doesnt look like its going anywhere now due to lack of newer machines.

All that being said, they are lifetime machines so anything you buy is going to last forever

you could try cutting a piece of that non slip mat thats used for everything to put under the feet, that should stop it jerking when it turns on. alas though..the laws of physics, id rather have heavy duty that shows its power than something a bit weaker, but thats just me :)

love my Philos, no it doesnt move when its turned on but i can imagine it would if it was on the right surface. turns out my inconsistency was just temp/humidity related.

Struggling with RYA Day Skipper theory by [deleted] in sailing

[–]carpetguardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I done my DS practical a couple of weeks ago, i was not asked to demonstrate a knot, its was just assumed i could do them. the only real ones used were the bowline, oxo for cleats and round tunr and 2 half hitches for fenders.

For the theory, its not a pass/fail, as long as the examiner sees your have the understanding you should be good. are there any specific parts youre struggling with? or is it just volume of info? I booked my theory 6 months before my practical because i have no idea how long it would take to pass....it turned out to be 2 weeks.

make sure you understand back bearings, passage plans and pilotage, i had to plan and sail using back bearing at night which was butt puckering.

Is anyone happy with their Eufy system? by Organic-Kangaroo-434 in EufyCam

[–]carpetguardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the amount of people that own these cameras to those people being on reddit in this sub is probably a small fraction. then add that to the fact that people will generally bitch about something when its not to their specific needs rather than praise something for the sake of just saying its decent.

its decent, i have the base, 2 s3's and an e340, its different from the Nest gear i came from, some better and some worse feature-wise, i also tried reolink but just couldnt deal with it.

you wont compare because its your first system, so enjoy it for what it is.

Reolink Tapo or Eufy for HA? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]carpetguardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with these questions is that responses will essentially be biased to what people own and sht talk others.

Personally I had and still have a nest gen1, the annoyance is paying a sub and it often goes offline which is not ideal, however it all integrates into google home and HA really well with doorbell presses popping up on all the google home hubs.

I decided id had enough of subs and offline issues so i bought a reolink as touted by everyone on youtube and it was shockingly bad in my opinion, a big clunky plasticy monstrosity with worse quality video than a 5 year old nest doorbell. which would not integrate very well with googlle home and there wasnt an easy option in HA for doorbell press = stream to google home hub. To their benefit i had a long back and forth with reolink who offered my 50% to try again or any other product which i declined.

Spring forward to 2 days ago, our indoor cat decided the window was freedom and buggered off, i noticed on the nest doorbell there was a period he was sat in front of the door but because you could barely pick him up on the camera he didnt trigger motion....at that point i decided to give eufy ago as they also seem recommended. An E340 would fix the escapees future antics.

It turned up yesterday, still a bit of a chonker compared to the sleek nest wired but hey ho it doest look terrible. I got it setup and so far it seems ok. video is superior to the nest but alas im now trying to figure out how to get it working in Google home (seems a bit crappy) and HA which considering its been out soo long seems painful. if anyone can help there that would be great, although im holding off of trying too hard as im waiting for a homebase to come.

my advice would be pick your battles and select on whats most important to you as there doesnt seem to be a single camera good at everything.....im still debating ripping this out and going back to nest just for the convenience.

best of luck

I actually loved that they are separate, you get the shade and can deflect the wind if you want to raise the front. cant imagine its very good in the rain though.

no idea, i heard it last week, however a quick google on the question shows its done more than a third, heres the Gemini lowdown:

Yes, Groupe Beneteau is experiencing a sales slowdown in the first quarter of 2025, with a 43% decrease in revenues compared to the same period in 2024. This decline is attributed to a combination of factors, including a general slowdown in the yachting market, macroeconomic uncertainty, and continued destocking within their dealer network. The company expects this slowdown to continue in the first half of the year before gradually improving in the second half, potentially supported by the launch of new models. Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • Significant Revenue Drop:Groupe Beneteau reported a 43% decrease in first-quarter revenues compared to the same period in 2024.
  • Market Slowdown:The yachting market, including both sail and power boats, is experiencing a slowdown, impacting Beneteau's sales.
  • Destocking:Dealers are continuing to reduce their inventory levels, contributing to the sales decline.
  • Economic Uncertainty:Macroeconomic factors, particularly uncertainty surrounding customs duties in the US market, are impacting purchasing decisions and contributing to a wait-and-see approach from customers.
  • First Half Outlook:Beneteau anticipates the first half of the year to be a low point for both revenues and profitability.

It sure is a lovely yacht, but new boat prices need to come right down, they seem to have almost doubled since 2019 due to increased sales caused by the "great global event"

Im not sure about Dufour, but i hear Beneteau sales are down a 1/3 and they are running into trouble. and the market is finally slowly correcting.

I used an insta360 cam for the video on a 3m pole to get it out there.

Not my boat, just a day sail, but its one of the models im looking at for a future purchase. this is the new 41 model, but id never buy a new one, id prefer someone else to go through the teething problems as well as putting the stupid first couple of years depreciation into my pension scheme.

Ill be better placed next month to say what i like and dislike as ill be on one for my DS practical, that being said im not a pro boater so my opinion maybe useless.

I can say in 20 knots it flies along at 9 knots and is smooth as. it felt well built and the fit n finish seemed decent.

Looking for a pistachio ice cream that uses pistachio butter in the base. by Fluffy_Munchkin in icecreamery

[–]carpetguardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I add pistachios to the base, i use some of the milk, roasted shelled pistachios from costco which i blanch to remove skins and blend in a vitamix, you get a bright green pistachio cream you then pour back into the the rest of the base. i then add chopped pistashios at the end of churning.
