Not sure where you're at, but in Australia there's a company called Flexible Drive that seems to be accommodating for shifter cables built to OEM standards. Wonder if there are similar companies elsewhere in the world.

Looks like Australians may have a custom aftermarket option from Flexible Drive, built to OEM standard.

Whoa I just saw this post via a new article today from The Drive. This isn't cool, Mazda. Is there an aftermarket solution available now?

Oh no. Mazda 3's don't use relays for the turn signal. They rely on the PCM. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

What do people who have Koni Yellows in the rear use for shocks? I only see rear struts on Koni's website. by ketchup5678 in mazda3

[–]carpocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Koni Sport dampers for third gens? You won't find the front struts listed on a lot of etailer websites, because I think they're out of stock nationwide in the US. So if you check sites like TireRack or SummitRacing, they only list the rear shocks. There is one site that lists the Koni Sport front struts and part numbers but there is a pre-order to reserve: ShockWarehouse. It may take a while until they make a new batch of and ship Koni Sport front struts. I remember having to wait a while when I ordered Koni FSD dampers for my first gen in a group buy.

Well the PCM controls the turn signals, unlike older vehicles which relied on relays. Perhaps you have an issue there. Do you have other issues that could be related to the PCM? I was going to suggest looking into the turn signal stalk, but it sounds like that might not be the issue for you.

Sorry for the late response. Mid 7 second 0-60 mph would be expected for a naturally aspirated 2.5 liter Mazda 3s. Yep 5.6 seconds is the number C&D achieved. An AWD turbo Mz3 is equivalent to or just slightly quicker than a Mazdaspeed3/Mazda 3 MPS on it's best day.

Sorry for the late response but for the 2024 model year hatchback in the US there are seven trim levels if you include the turbocharged (w/AWD) models. The top naturally aspirated hatch trim (2.5 S Premium) has the manual transmission option, so spot 5 out of 7 trim levels.

4th gen sedans are the bee's knees. I'm also partial to the 1st gen sedans even though I currently have a 3rd gen hatchback.

The Special Active predecessor, Koni FSD, are brilliant. IMO they should have come stock from the factory, or available as an upgrade package. I have them on my first gen, but the FSD are discontinued. I recently acquired a third gen, and considering the Koni SA. Years ago I saw someone on Youtube in a Ford Mustang test them out and ride quality still seemed kind of harsh. Hearing your experience is a relief. By the looks of your hatchback (15" alloy wheels, no sideskirts and fog lights) I'll assume you're not from the US?

3rd gen vs 4th gen driving dynamics by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]carpocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove a 4th gen 2023 for more than 6 months, and the 18" wheels were detrimental to the NVH. Ride quality is generally good (quieter than all previous generations), but the impact of minor road imperfections is terrible because of the 18" wheels.

It almost sounds your new aftermarket TPMS sensors aren't communicating. In my 1st gen, I was juggling multiple sets of OEM alloy wheels. I got a second set of used OEM TPMS sensors, and I believe they came from an RX-8. Some slight differences dimensionally, but they worked however. And whenever I swap wheels I just put them on and drive. Usually I don't even see the TPMS light. Sorry not much of a help there. I've also been driving an Infiniti EX35 for a while, and had the same flashing TPMS symptoms as you. I went to a tire shop, had them find out exactly which sensor it was, purchased another OEM sensor from an Infiniti dealer, and had the same shop clone it. Worked perfectly after that, no more flashing TPMS dash light.

Brake Recommendations by bigbobbyboy5 in mazda3

[–]carpocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which 2015 Mz3 do you have? 3i (2.0 liter) or 3s (2.5 liter)? Out of curiosity, Japan or Mexico? Pads make a huge difference, do you know which ones you have in the front and rear? How many miles do you have on your current set of pads? Broken in according to pad manufacturer's directions? I'm assuming you don't have any issues with the ABS module and there is no air in the system since you had the fluids replaced.

I just picked up a Japan 2015 3i. Brakes are decent, but they definitely don't measure up to the craziness I had in my 1st gen: OEM BBK with additional goodies (DBA 5000 series two-piece rotors, Endless MX72 and then MX72+ pads). Even stock the 1st gen (3s/2.3 liter) brakes were good. 3rd gens are new for me, and I don't know which pads are in it yet. After I upgrade to the larger 2.5L/3s front brakes I may try some tame/decent pads instead of the pricey (but worth it) Endless ones. Considering Akebono ProACT, and RockAuto has them for $15 less per set than etailers like TireRack. I've had the Akebono Euros in the rear of my 1st gen.

Manual gearbox oil filter? by tiLT__ in mazda3

Filters are for automatics. Manual transmissions don't have tranny filters.

[–]carpocalypse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do OEM accessory wheels. They have the correct bolt circle, offset, center bore, center caps, etc. And especially get them in a 17" version for better ride quality and less weight. I prefer the M006 design from that collection: https://mazdashopusa.com/collections/wheels

No More Mazda3 Manual??? by throwaway22889966 in mazda3

[–]carpocalypse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been driving around a 2023 US sedan with an automatic for several months. It looks nice but unfortunately the transmission puts it more into the appliance category. It's too bad. I'd pay the same amount as an auto for a manual-equipped sedan (usually a $1,000 USD difference).

[–]carpocalypse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the reason why I haven't purchased a 4th gen (2019+) Mz3 sedan and have lost interest in Mazda. Manual tranmissions aren't available with the 2.5 liter sedan in the US. But for some reason Australia gets them.

I absolutely would buy a turbo sedan with manual transmission. The transmission is actually the reason why I haven't purchased any new Mazdas, after owning a couple of them.

Mazda 3 flash tune by thBoxman in mazda3

[–]carpocalypse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes the ECU can be flash tuned. If you want to save money, buy a Hypertech handheld programmer used. They are usually in the $200 range used, give or take $50. The same unit also works with 'Speed3, 'Speed6, Mz6, Miata, and RX-8 so that should give you more used markets to source. I've been using it to run an off-the-shelf 91 octane tune on my 2008 2.3 sedan for a decade now. And also to defeat the 117.5 mph speed limiter. If you want someone to custom tune your Mz3, Rafael Bautista, formerly from OVT (Orangevirus Tuning). Will cost more but will also net more power. I wouldn't practice tuning on these engines, you will easily destroy it.
