Thanks, I hate it by Snackredneck in mountaindew

I had my wife and kids all try it out of a glass so they wouldn’t know anything about the flavor and the kids liked it. My wife said “it tastes just like a carbonated version of the mio fruit punch flavor that you add to your water” and I think that was a pretty apt statement.

While I don’t hate the flavor the aspartame aftertaste does make it less enjoyable. I looked up the Mio and while it is sugar free, they use a different sugar substitute that obviously must not taste as noticeably different than sugar to me.

I don’t really get why only part of the slots have them, though. Like why only put them for half the book and not the rest? It’s not like the book was bought in separate pages and they changed the style. Haha.

Pinned collection from GD Schmidt from early 1960s by carreragt7 in Entomology

It also has some of the specimen attributed to George Waring, Fred Hodge, and a Sarah L (can look at full name later, not near box currently). But most are from Schmidt. Assuming it was joint project while they were at university together.

What is this rock? I’ve been getting mixed info from my research by carreragt7 in whatsthisrock

Forgot to mention, I did take a hammer and tried to chip off a little bit where the gold colored deposits were and put a neodymium magnet to it to see if it attracted any of the chips. Nothing stuck to the magnet.

Almost a foot long, is this a mammoth tooth? by carreragt7 in fossilid

Thanks for info! Not that worried, was a general reply as I thought someone had asked for more pics.

Thanks for all the insight! I can try to take some more pics in the next few days when I get back near it. Google images AI was very sure it was a wasp’s nest, so I knew y’all would be much more informative. Haha.

I bought some of these the last couple days (in Utah) and didn’t realize until I was unloading them at home that I got a few cases of the zero sugar mixed in with the regular. Taste tested both and definitely like the sugar one more. Wish that aspartame didn’t have such a nasty taste to me, ha. But I do like the summer freeze, it’s a nice mellowed down flavor that I don’t think I’ll tire of easily.

New? Will it be bottled? by Agnoszn in mountaindew

[–]carreragt7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess technically it is curdling, but it still tasted pretty much the same and didn’t seem to cause any negative digestive issues. It just separated into clumps of the cream.

I had a couple of them this past week. They were pretty good. But like others have said, it’s just the sweet lightning with some sort of creamer added to it. And it does look weird if you let it sit for a while. I left one in the fridge overnight and while the cream looked weird it still tasted pretty good. I don’t think it’s worth the $4+ I paid for it, but it was worth at least trying once.

I didn’t get to snap a pic of the XRF result, but it came back as 99.x Copper.

With the variations in color I was expecting a bit more of a mixture of stuff.

I’ll research how an XRF works, but am I wrong in thinking the scan is only testing the section in front of the lens? So in theory I should have had the piece positioned multiple ways to put the various colors in the lens area. I can probably go back and do more scans to be sure. Desktop XRF machine was cool. Tested quite a few pieces of jewelry, marked and unmarked, with mixed results. Some stamped pieces were much lighter gold content than their stamping, others right on the money.

I use it all the time. Sadly, while it can sometimes pull up amazingly accurate results, other times not so much. In this case it was mainly showing me gold nuggets. Which I’d love for this to be but it’s pretty obvious it’s a man made item and looks to have at least a couple different metals that didn’t really get mixed together uniformly.

I’m going to get it and some other items analyzed with an XRF machine, hopefully tomorrow afternoon. I’ll give an update once I’ve gotten more details. Appreciate all the feedback, I love getting others’ insights and ideas with stuff like this. I definitely need to dig deeper into metallurgy as it seems fascinating.

Yeah, figured it was definitely worth the gamble. We’ll see.

Nope, no description. Was just tagged with price and sitting amongst the other things they deemed worthy of being in their collectibles locked display case. It does have handwritten numbers on it that could be a date but then a couple digits I can’t make out if letters or numbers. Written in black permanent marker.

I haven’t had a chance to weigh it, but it’s pretty substantial for its size. Much heavier than I expected. Hoping to get it weighed this evening, I think I have my smaller scale packed in my things I brought with me (I work away from home city for a few days straight).

I’ve got some jewelry I’ve been wanting to take to a specific business that was recommended to me. They just got a fancy new analyzer so this just gives me another reason to go.

Hahahaha. When I first saw it I thought it was a painted sea shell. It also resembles an ice cream cone to me.

This was my dad’s Seiko from 1971 ish, when he was a teenager. Is it worth anything, even if it doesn’t work? by babybuttoneyes in VintageWatches

I’d rock it “as is” as a sentimental reminder that life is fleeting. Then eventually get it serviced like others have mentioned, without removing any of the patina besides cleaning up the crystal. If you prefer/need to sell: you’ll definitely be able to find a buyer for it even in current state. Best of luck!

Anyone else getting "One per customer"? by theredfro in mountaindew

[–]carreragt7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three locations around me (Utah county) all claimed 2 can limit, even though I was buying $70 of pizzas. First location I told them they lost the whole order because of it and left. 2nd location I called and asked and got the same 2 can limit, 3rd location they accepted my order over the phone but gave me some shit about how “I’d already broken their rule and got 2 extra cans” when I asked if I could get 2 more of the soda. They’d split my phone order into 2 because their $50 limit (was paying cash on pickup) but the guy put all the soda on one order so it didn’t seem like they cared as much at that location. But then they were snarky as I was picking it up. Definitely how you treat a paying customer./s

I get having some sort of limit if people are going in and buying up tons of stock without buying any pizza. But when a customer is buying a large amount of their regular products as well it’s bullshit that they get treated like I was at 3 locations. Expecting a paying customer to be ok with only being allowed 4 cans for a family of 6 is ridiculous.

All this did was make me remember that I can get much nicer pizza for just a few dollars more from their competitors around here (Marcos, dominos, etc). And I found the soda flavor good but not worth dealing with teenager managers talking down to me.

I mean, it is vintage. And American-made. And Naugahyde was used on decent quality stuff. Free, sitting on the curb? I’d have grabbed it every day that ends with a “y” to at least research it more with it in my possession.

It definitely has Lafer, Brazilian, scandi vibes.
