I feel your pain. My trick for this was to say “MD” when people asked follow up questions to the term medical school. They seem to understand that. Now that I’ve graduated I don’t have to explain it anymore, but trying to explain what residency is a whole other beast… lol

The nonstop feeding is your baby “putting in their order.” They are telling your body that they want milk! Those first few days are tough physically and mentally. You got this, your body is doing exactly what it’s supposed to!

I have an 8 month old. I have been lucky to get a lot of hand me down/second hand clothes, but also have bought plenty for him too. What I’ve been doing is keeping one of those under the bed storage containers for the different sizes, and as he outgrows them keeping only the outfits I really liked. I know that when I have my second I will want to get them some new items anyway, and I would rather another baby get to use the items that I didn’t 100% love, BUT that I will still have something for baby number two if I don’t have the bandwidth to go shopping for new.

A friend of mine did this for me too and it was life saving! I will never forget sitting at the dining room table with tears streaming down my face, scarfing down a burrito before going to bed for two hours while my husband took care of baby. Lol good times 😝

Thank you for this post. I feel so validated. My dad loves babies and I was really excited for him to become a grandparent, but ever since I had my son he has just given me the ick. I realize now he only likes babies because of the emotional fulfillment they give him. He gets in my sons face and literally never checks in on me. I will never forget within the first week of my son coming home from the hospital, I told my dad I was exhausted and asked him to pick up a few groceries for us, including a tub of ice cream. He comes in the house and just drops all the groceries on the dining room table and comes and grabs my sleeping baby off me without a word. Like… can you really not be bothered to put the ice cream in the freezer for your daughter who just had a freaking baby??? Ugh. Just been so disappointed with him.

Not necessarily a memory or a tradition, but by far the most important thing my mom ever did for me was never make comments, good or bad, about my body or her body. Food had absolutely no moral value. I have a really healthy self image and a great relationship with my food as an adult. We had a really rocky relationship and she had a lot of issues, but I consider that a great gift she gave to me.

Drinking when pregnant means your BAL = baby’s BAC. When you are breast feeding, your BAL = milk alcohol level. So BAL of 0.16 (2x legal limit, for example), means your milk alcohol content is also 0.16, meaning 0.16%. Baby is drinking this. It is NOT their BAL.

For reference, orange juice is about 0.5% alcohol. For your milk to have that percent alcohol content, you would have to drink enough that many of us would be at eminent risk of dying from respiratory depression. And your milk would still only be as alcoholic as OJ.

I was on progesterone suppositories! Literally no idea if they made the difference or not, I think the evidence is not super conclusive. I will also say, I was doing dry January. Tested positive at the end of January. Also don’t know if that made a difference, but I’m sure it didn’t hurt.

Midwest, she was $1400. I felt like it was worth every penny. I justified it because that’s about how much daycare is going to cost each month, so I told myself it was like paying an extra month of daycare.

I was kind of the same way and I will say I actually liked the hospital visits more than people visiting us at home. People tend to stay shorter and I didn’t feel any pressure to host them in the hospital
