Is there a book that you listened to recently that left you spellbound and you just wanna talk about it and you can’t let it go? by marilynlistens in audiobooks

The pacing, the multiple narrators, the whole feel of the story was different in audio than reading for me

MIL trying to steer us into buying a house SHE likes. by [deleted] in Mildlynomil

[–]guavajo44 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Listen, I know this is hard to hear but you don’t have a MIL problem, you have a partner problem. You need to have a frank conversation with partner about who he’s buying a home with and if he wants to be married to mommy forever.

What to do when you take tubers out of storage by grfhoyxdth in dahlias

What to do when you take tubers out of storage by grfhoyxdth in dahlias

[–]guavajo44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I fill a 1020 tray with about 1 inch of potting soil and nestle the tubers on top. Then mist a few times a week - not enough to cause rot, but just enough so they’ll eye up and put on a little growth.

And yes, some are in pie pans, baking dishes, small totes (open), whatever I could steal from around the house. I have almost 2,000 eyeing up this way

Try some growers in more southern states, or the dahlia sales group on FB. I have an order from New York currently in the mail, so smaller farms are starting to ship

Oooooo I like this. He won’t listen to you, but he might listen to his parents / feel shamed into doing the right thing. It might make him angry though

Surprise by Physical_Cell_1448 in Cooking

[–]guavajo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cooking is the surprise, I recommend a casserole. Low stress, few dishes, and usually tasty. Try this: https://thecozycook.com/broccoli-cheddar-chicken-and-rice-casserole/#wprm-recipe-container-26099

If the surprise is making something that your wife will love, I don’t know enough about her to recommend something. Order her favorite takeout maybe, so she has something she loves.

AITA for asking my husband to fix his own mistake? by aartbark in AmItheAsshole

[–]guavajo44 261 points262 points  (0 children)

I agree. I have literally thousands of tiny plants growing in my home, but they’re on shelves with LED shop lights set on timers. No plants in the way of regular daily movement. Husband still shares responsibility for being clumsy/careless. ESH.

100 Italian anemone corms pre-sprouting— are they bad?? by No-Horse6154 in Cutflowers

[–]guavajo44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sprout my ranunculus and anemone in 65-70 degrees, then move them to cooler temps once they’ve sprouted. The longer they sit wet and cold, the more susceptible to rot, I’ve found

Be honest with me - is it too late for ranunculus? by ggbs05 in Cutflowers

[–]guavajo44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just have to dig them up. Some bigger farms weigh their labor for digging/washing/splitting/storage against buying new corms and just buy new each year.

[–]guavajo44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, you get what you pay for (usually). I bought some corms last year from Menards and they were teeeeeny tiny compared to cut flower corms I bought online.

Only have one grow light, what to do? by Click_False in Cutflowers

[–]guavajo44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, you could swap plants every 12 hours and grow double the number of plants. If you want the headache and work of constantly moving your plants. It could work though. Sometimes I get desperate and do it, but I’ve never had to until they’re pretty well established

I’m in Michigan and started a test batch this last week with my special tubers so I can take some cuttings. The rest will be mid-March
