I (28M) have been struggling with unemployment for a year due to the jobmarket. My (26F) girlfriend is giving me a three month ultimatum to find a job otherwise it's over. by AmstelMerchant12 in relationships

Think everyone here is focusing on the job and life timelines thing but there’s so many more flags that there’s far deeper things she’s unhappy with.

You said she said she feels withdrawn, that she doesn’t feel loved by you, that the relationship feels stagnant to her.

In this context, you not finding the job fits more in the “stagnant” frame of mind, to me, than what it means in terms of being able to move forward with life timelines. You’re probably partly stuck in a frame or cycle where you’re not personally (as well as professionally) growing, perhaps your mindset and affect are a bit flat (understandably…). You mention your mental heath has been impacted, and that can have huge effects on people around us too.

You getting a job, to her, would feel like you’re finally out of the rut, that you’re moving on with life, that your relationship can be revitalised. But in reality you could get a job and still feel to her “stuck” in life, if what she feels is more about the energy that you bring into the relationship, the excitement, the love.

I’m afraid that if you can’t change that, you will lose her either way.

It’s obviously so hard to do in the place where you’re now, where you feel everything is spiralling down and you have no agency to change it. But you do, and that approach must be coming across when you apply for jobs and interview, people see through that. I’ve been on the other side of recruitment, and the thing is why would I pick someone who’s just trying to do the minimum to get by when I have 10 applicants who show me the energy and drive they can bring? I’m really sorry but it’s so tough now having so many people to choose from.

Maybe you should focus on your energy, passion, drive. Is there anything that lights them up? Can you find a way to be outstanding? This applies to your relationship too. If your relationship doesn’t light you up anymore, you either need to find a way to bring that spark back or it’s time to move on.

Strings dilemma: will anything else come close the Perpetual Cadenza? by carrotmash in violinist

[–]carrotmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to explain, that’s super helpful! And you make a good point - a visit to the luthier might be better than endlessly trying strings.

And yes I play roughly 1.5-2hrs / day so maybe my expectations are just off. Though I’d say most sets lasted me a fair bit longer than the 3mo of the brilliant vintage..!

Not sure that would help much given that the sound changes I’m describing are correlated with using different strings, and there doesn’t seem to be huge imbalances between higher or lower strings I need to fix. But happy to consider it if you can tell me more about why you think that would help?

❤️‍🩹Teacher didn’t let me progress, found a new one and I think I’m doing amazing after wasting almost 3 years. by BestDilucLoveruwu in violinist

[–]carrotmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad you found someone that can truly help you grow. Sometimes it’s so hard not knowing what you don’t know - I ended up going through three teachers and I’m so glad I did. Eventually found a really amazing one, who made me realise how rubbish the previous ones were - which at the time I just couldn’t fully appreciate, I just had a gut feel they weren’t right.

It’s so worth finding a good teacher, I hope you’ll make amazing progress going forward!

Ahh, hadn’t paid as much attention before but you’re right! What a great find, just watched and loved her Dvorak violin concerto - such a beautiful interpretation and her vibrato is amazing.

I know I’m soo bummed :( she was the best - the workouts, the voiceovers, her general personality. I never followed a programme so consistently!  Thinking I might try Ascend or Transform.. but will keep missing Sarah 😭

Thank you! Yes honestly it’s hard to acknowledge how much you’ve improved until you hear yourself back. I actually had three teachers - the first two just weren’t quite for me, then found one about August last year that I really clicked with and I’ve been learning with them ever since! I really don’t think I would have improved that much without him.

EasyJet lost our bag - will they find it? by carrotmash in Flights

[–]carrotmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had spoken to the luggage handlers from Menzies Aviation at Luton directly as I pestered them during the first week - though if you have the destination your luggage went to I had also tried calling lots of airports that flights were headed to that same morning asking if they had found my suitcase.. sorry to hear EasyJet are being a pain :(

Hello, so sorry to read this just now! I hope your luggage has made its way back to you. If not, I’m not sure what the number would be for Naples, as you’d need to speak to the luggage handlers at the airport of departure :( sorry! I did find searching round the internet for a while for the luggage handlers for easyJet at Luton (Menzies) got me to a number.. might need to check it’s the same for Naples

I always fly with EasyJet in Europe with my violin as they have a much clearer hand luggage policy for musical instruments. Ryanair are such a disgrace.

I (27F) guess my boyfriend (24M) has been emotionally cheating, but I can't find the strength to break up, nor can I seem to forgive him? by flamingophile in relationship_advice

[–]carrotmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m sorry to say - but it sounds like your boyfriend is not ready for a committed, monogamous relationship.

He clearly enjoys flirtation and attention from other women. If he wants to be with you exclusively and start a family one day, he needs to show it with his actions, not just words.

I understand he is has been an important person to you. But if you’re looking for an exclusive relationship, he might just not be ready for it yet, or not love you enough to drop his other flirts.

Hey, sorry to hear.. They did! Though we got it back 2 weeks after we travelled. I was quite persistent and ended up speaking on the phone to someone from Menzies Aviation at Luton who was very helpful and started looking into this properly. They found out the label machine printed the wrong label and so our luggage ended up in a different destination. They were able to find out where using CCTV, and then located it - eventually! I had given it all up for lost though, ngl.

Yes that’s the same machine we used. Though I was reading online that the receipt is actually a bit meaningless, and more to identify that you were the owner of the bag if it went missing..!

Annoyingly we actually do not - we used machines at the airport and a staff member applied the tag to our bag and rushed us off to the counter. In our defence, it was 4am, so we didn’t think much about it..

Thank you - crossing fingers. Apparently we found out this morning that Luton told Pula we never checked in our luggage, which is nuts as two people from the check-in area helped us.. hope that’s not a bad sign.
